Greetings from Kent Island on the Chesapeake Bay...

I am a retired "stay at home " dad with two boys (10 and 13). My wife rode an ebike on a business trip, and convinced me to purchase two electric bike conversion kits for Christmas two years ago. The kits are front hub Voilmart 48v with a 1000w 13ah rack mounted battery. Her bike is a 7 speed "beach cruiser" and mine is a hybrid. We have had a lot of fun with them, but I have never been really comfortable with my bike. It was a hand -me -down from my dad, and just to tall for me. My wife has bought me a "beach cruiser" for Christmas, and I can't wait to do the conversion. I will keep you posted...

Welcome to the site.
Glad you're going to get something your size in the future. Great thing about conversions, everything is replaceable & portable. My kit has been on two different bikes, with 3 different motor/controllers and 3 different batteries , one of which worked more than 11 miles. Didn't like the direct drive hub motor; wore out the first geared hub motor (4500 miles); Using the second geared hub motor.

Kent Island is completely flat with the highest elevation being the route 50 overpass! Beach Cruisers are perfect for the type of riding we do, with beaches and paved trails in all directions. At the moment, I do not have the pas system installed, as I like the throttle. Is there any advantage to the pas?

I hated the PAS that came with my first controller/motor/pickup/throttle. Minimum speed was 11 mph at level 1, and minimum acceleration was about 250 W, which was too fast for bad pavement I sometimes ride on. When I moved the system to the next bike, I did not bother to install the PAS pickup on the new crank. I ride unpowered the majority of the time, but when the wind is strong in my face or on the 50th or later hill, I use the throttle.
If I ride into the wind more than 2 hours, my throttle hand gets tired. Worth it having electric assist available to avoid 6 hour rides at 140 bpm heart rate, as my route and distance are fixed whatever the wind is doing.
When the first hubmotor wore out, the new one came with a controller not equipped for a pas pickup, or chain tension pickup either. The latter feature is new, allegedly very natural feeling, and available mainly on mid-drive bikes. The mid drive bikes can't be ridden if the chain battery motor or controller die, which has happened to me several times. Since I have a geared hub motor that doesn't drag unpowered, when the battery fails (two of them) or the throttle is taken out by the rain (thrice), or the motor wears out (once), I just keep pedaling until I get to my destination. No tow truck, taxi, or spouse assistance required.
