Greasing/Not Greasing Pivot Bearings ?

I have never even looked at my Pivot bearings. I ran across a thread on another forum where a guy was alerting others that his new bike had no grease on/in the pivots. Aren't those sealed bearings and should not need grease? I really don't know but I think I'm going to be inspecting my pivot bearings asap.

It sort of depends. Surprisingly some bikes still use loose bearings and fixed races on certain parts. Most though use sealed cartridge bearings or bushings. I still like to occasionally clean the cartridge bearing surfaces and give the parts a light coating of grease on the surfaces. It's a good time to inspect them for damage. When you have them in hand you can spin them, feeling for rough spots. Bushings have to be cleaned and lubed. Bushings are being used more and more on bike parts due to cost.

listening to my local high end bike shop yes you need grease and they are somewhat high maintenance. you have to be careful washing the bike to keep from pushing water or dirt into them. sealed bearings does not mean water wont get in.
