Grease for seatpost?

Do you put grease on your seatpost? What type is recommended? Thanks, John

Grease on an aluminum seatpost going into and aluminum or steel frame. Any kind is fine (well, not bacon grease).

I like plumber's silicone grease for this type of application. It is waterproof and not messy (clear and rather "sticky"). I found it at Ace Hardware.

The purpose of greasing the post is to prevent corrosion, and galling adhesion with aluminum against aluminum. A basic grease will do the job. Avoid the super slick additive greases because they can cause the post to slip when your backside hammers the seat on a rough road.

What the others said. Pretty much any grease will do the trick.

Little mechanic's and bike tourer tip: deposit a blob of grease inside the bottom of the seatpost. That way you'll always have some available in case you need it on the road.
