Giant Explore e+3 Chainring Spider Seems Loose. Time for Motor Overhaul?

While doing routine maintenance on my 2018 Giant Explore e+3, I noticed that the “spider” that connects the chainring to the shaft appears to be loose on the shaft. At first, I suspected motor bearing wear but after looking more closely, I see that there is an inner shaft, connected to the crank arms and an outer shaft that the spider is mounted on.

The inner shaft has a tiny amount of play, perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The outer shaft has more play also perpendicular to the axis. It looks like I can tighten the 36 mm left-hand thread nut on the outer shaft if I invest in a socket. Is that worth a try or is it time for a motor overhaul? Motor / drive seems to work fine with no unusual noises. Bike has about 10K miles on it.

TIA for any advice.
