Free play in front wheel.

I bought a new rim and setup the tire, etc.

After putting it in the fork, 110X15 Boost with a thru axle QR and a Mavic hub, I noticed side to side play,
If I grab the top of the wheel and wiggle it back and forth it moves a noticeable amount.

I've reseated the hub in the fork and tried a couple different amounts of tightness on the QR lever.
Nothing helps.

I put the old wheel back in and it does the same thing.
I tried moving the axle on the wheel not mounted on the bike and I can't get it move with my hand.
I stumped?

Saw your post under Mountain, Trail as well and have been thinking about your problem.

There shouldn't be any side to side play when the wheel is mounted. It is odd that your original and new wheel do the same thing though.

With that said I've always found that side to side movement is caused by loose hub bearings. When I adjust the bearings, the wobble goes away. This site discusses adjusting Shimano Thru Axle Hubs.

Still odd that both wheels wobble...

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. My thoughts exactly. On the original wheel I can wiggle the axle with my fingers so I'm thinking that's a bearing issue, but on the new one I can't.
This one has me stumped.
I'm wondering if the quick release is just a poor fit?

What kind of bearings in the hub? Cone bearings or sealed ball bearings? Sorry but I don't know anything about a Mavic hub.

I always tighten my bearings down to the point where I feel rubbing and then back off just a bit.

The torque spec on my thru axle is high-ish at 15Nm. @Stefan Mikes bought a replacement axle through the Robert Axle Project. They specified an even higher 20Nm. Could be you can't get enough torque with the QR axle, though sealed bearings aren't generally preloaded by the axle so maybe no difference? Still thinking bearing adjustment...

It has to be something to do with fork and hub incompatibility. It certainly doesn't sound right.
What fork is it?

I should not have posted this in two places...
if you want to follow along

I'm about to reveal what it was!
