Eurobike 2019

Tuesday, 3 September to Friday, 6 September.

Eurobike held annually in Friedrichshafen, Germany, is probably the world's most significant bicycle trade show.

Last year's show was dominated by ebikes (especially in the minds of ebike enthusiasts!) and this year we can expect much the same. For me, Eurobike 2018 delivered my dream bike, Riese & Müller's Homage GX Rohloff which won the Gold Award which, for reasons beyond my understanding, seems to have been ignored by R&M's promotions team.

What can we expect, or hope for, in this coming week?

The ebike shop where I purchased my Homage GX Rohloff is closed for 10 days as they attend this show. I hope they order lots of amazing ebikes. I’m not in the market right now but fascinated by the rapid growth and innovation of ebikes.

Van Raam Chat 'Rickshaw Ebike'

Judges' Comments…

• Van Raam is a company based in the Netherlands that repeatedly comes under the spotlight thanks to its well-conceived solutions in the specialist bike segment.
• With the Chat, the Dutch producers have built a bike that guarantees simple, safe and sustainable mobility with the assistance of others for people who are no longer able to cycle independently.
• This rickshaw bike has an impressive quality of detail. We found it very easy to ride and liked its wide range of safety features, particularly the good visibility through the canopy.

• The rickshaw bike Chat is meant to ride together with children and/or adults who are no longer able to participate in traffic on their own or for recreational use.
• An accompanying person cycles with one or two persons.
• The two people who join the group as a co-driver are seated next to each other in a specially designed cockpit where design and ergonomics come together.
• The driver sits behind this cockpit and thus has an overview of the road, but also of the occupants.

Bianchi e-SUV …

The Bianchi e-SUV family consists of three full carbon models: Racer, Rally and Adventure, all powered by a Shimano E8000 drive unit and 720Wh battery.

• Racer (photo): Modern trail eMTB with 150mm rear travel and 160mm front travel, 622mm wheel size and Shimano XTR 1x12-speed groupset.
• Rally: Fully accessorised eMTB bike, with integrated lights and mudguards for extreme day or night rides. 150mm rear and front travel, 585mm rear and 622mm front wheel, and Shimano XTR 1×12-speed. Extremely powerful light.

Oechsler 3ve Drivematic …

This one's not for me; however, there have been recent posts on other threads about two issues that the Oechsler 3ve Drivematic addresses…

• integration of gearbox and motor,
• automatic gear-changing.
