E-Bike Commuter Decision

Hi Everyone from Newport Beach, CA

The 2 of us, Wife (5’ 6”) and myself (6’ 3”) are in the market for a Commuter E-Bike. It will be for going around town, Beach paths, etc. Have 4 small kids. May eventually have a Child Bike Trailer behind one of the bikes so we can tow the 2 little ones. Just maybe? Have a hunch we may be towing alot of crap also. 4 Kids under 4. Always out and about and you only know the amount of stuff you bring kids. Lol.

Our Wish list is the following:
  • Cost: $2,000 to $3,500
  • Suspension would be nice
  • Not an aggressive stance
  • Debating the following: Class 1 OR Class 3
  • Mostly in a flat area with a few little hills in the distance

I would like to find a deal. Not pay Retail. I probably will buy 2 bikes and if I could find a good discount for a NEW 2019 model, this would be a good time to buy.

Here are the bikes I've been looking at. No Ranking Order

Love to have anyone's input re this first e-bike purchase to help steer me in the right direction or share any experience that may help a first time e-bike owner. First Time posting. Been on the site for a few weeks going down many rabbit holes.

I know I put a lot of bikes on here. The 2 Bikes I was leaning towards is the Haibike Sduro 7.0 and 9.0 One is around $2300 and the other is $3499. Have not ridin the Magnum or Specialized and have heard many good things. Dost is out bc of the wait times. 3 months.

Are you open to purchasing a new old stock Haibike... there are some good deals on very low mileage models on BBB.

Yeah, That would be fine. Ive seen new 2019 Haibike Sduro 7.0 for 2300 ish also. Thought that could be a good options also. Thoughts?

I have a Yamaha powered Haibike (2016 Trekking RC). I think it is a great bike. Personally, I wish it did not have suspension. When I lock it out I can barely tell the difference in ride quality, so the added weight just seems silly. You have good roads in Newport Beach, so IMO suspension is not particularly necessary.

Raleigh has their Retroglide Royale on sale in both men's and step-thru. Lots of California vibe to it. LOL. But maybe it is too small for you?

I saw that bike also. U bought ur bike new? Do u think there is something u would prefer over what u bought? Like a specialized? Or a magnum? Or would u do a Haibike again? I’m leaning towards a 7.0 or a 9.0? I think the major diff is class 1 vs 3? Is a class 3 an issue if u are obeying the speed limit?
