I want to find a more suitable, better performing drive train option that isnt expensive & not overly complicated in theory so that its manageable for a novice, recreational rider with basic mechanic skills
I have 750w front wheel hub motor kit on a hardtail front susp mtb with a pretty standard 3x7 set up. I suck @ gearing, only first few gears & last gear are relevant & I always end up comfortable in the naughty cross train position!
I ride for a bit of fun, bit of exercise & to gently strengthen a bad knee, so I rely on full throttle from time to time without an ekit theres no way i could bike ride!
Heres the thing.. I feel I could be getting a heaps better performance ratio return which in turn improves fitness & strength with some kind of better gear set up more suited to me & the ekit not to mention less wear & tear on my chain strain skils
Id like to be able to have more pedal resistance (is this cadence?) at 35km per hr range instead of waiting for bike to catch again.. its not a flat environment so it kinda sucks i cant capatilise on the downside or long flat stretches... I certainly dont want too much resistance tho coz of my knee...
Id be fine without all the useless inbetween gears that r only a maintaince worry if theres sime kind of wild gear set up like that pls advise?
Otherwise is there any kind of set up u can steer me towards that will work better for me?
i often see a smaller 1 cog @ front on custom mtb set ups.. which at 1st i thought good 4 me considering im a bad gearer! but after researching the drop in power might have killed that idea!
hmm why dont they make a bigger front cog or 2 or 3 or 4 with a smaller cog or 2 on the rear?
I dont suppose swapping my ekit over onto my giant simple 3 beach cruiser with 3spd internal hub gear would be a better solution.. i dont think itd have enough power but i do like the simplicity & low maintaince of such a system...
while ive got u.. re & up coming ebike project im planning on another bike.. with my style of riding on a similar powered ekit would rim brakes do the job or definately not? also can u get a disc brake attachment part for front susp forks on older bike? what about upgrading rear of an mongoose pro hardail so that disc brakes r compatabike thats if Rim r no go from u
