I'm getting this bike with a 48v battery. I have a 36v battery that will fit. I would like to use for a backup. Can I do this and what would I change to make work? Also can you change wattage use of motor to get longer rides when on mainly level ground. And how would I do this?
Thanks

M620 motor is rated for 48v or 52v. You can plug your fully charged 36v battery (42v) and it WILL run.... for about 6 minutes. As you can see by the chart above a fully charged 36v battery is like plugging in a battery that has a 20% charge ( using the 48v range column). Depending on the BMS installed and the pre programed low voltage limit of the bafang controller they will limit you also. Sell your 36v battery to someone with a 36v motor and just bite the bullet and get the correct voltage one for your motor.
Alot of people use a 52v battery ( max charge of 58.8v) on their 48v motors. Typically these motors will operate up to 60v without damaging the internals.
As far as changing the wattage settings yes you can by adjusting the internal programming of the controller on the motor if you have a mainly stock M620 motor. You can't change the 620 motors with the Archon X1 controller upgrade without paying a substantial fee and obtaining a specific password particular to the motors serial #.

Yes, Grenno is right, forget the 36v and buy a 52v battery. Running my Ultra on 48v for a year was great, but the bike was superior in every way when I got the 52v battery. I get 20%+ in ride time and the bike has more get up and go.
