Creo Carbon Comp SL Motor Error

I've now experienced four instances of the bike reporting a motor error. They seem to be generated randomly with nothing out of the ordinary causing them. I've contacted the shop but they say I have to bring the bike in so they can connect it to their diagnostic computer. I haven't been able to haul the bike in as my wife has been out of town with my truck and won't return until later this week. Mission Control says to turn off the system, wait 30 seconds, then turn the system back on. So far this has cleared the error every time. Mission Control also has an Advanced Diagnostic function that says will transmit the Diagnostic Report "to the Specialized Authorized Retailer network, enabling remote diagnostics". but my dealer knows nothing about this function or ability. I'll be interested to see what the dealer finds and how he will resolve it.

Also interested. Seemed like it took specialized forever to work out the issues with their Vado engines. I really want a Creo but am nervous about spending this much on a first generation product.

Today the bike went into the dealer. He connected to the TCU and verified the motor errors I reported. The error was coded as a 512, "Permanent phase open load". That didn't sound good. The motor software was due for an update so he did that and said hopefully that will correct the error. I took it out for a ride and within 8 miles the motor error came back. I returned to the shop and the owner called Specialized. They had a record of the errors from me transmitting from the Advanced Diagnostic option in Mission Control. There was no argument, they will be priority shipping a new motor to my dealer. I will pick up the bike on Friday or Saturday. I'm not happy that I'm having to go through the hassle but I am happy that Specialized stands behind their product with no hesitation.

Today I picked up my Creo with the replacement motor. I took it out for a 22 mile ride through the hills above Tucson. At mile 17 the same motor error reappeared! The bike is back at the shop. I told the mechanic to pass on to the owner that it may be time for a new bike since they can't seem to fix this one. I won't hear from them until Monday so they have a chance to discuss the situation with Specialized. Not a happy camper....

I'll opine that it's not the motor then. Perhaps the battery or the connectors.

I agree but I want it fixed NOW. If the diagnostics aren't reporting the true problem, I don't want them just throwing parts at it. The fault comes on randomly so I'll never know if it's truly fixed. I'd feel much more confident if they just replaced the bike and I'll start all over.

I just received a call from the dealer. They are going to push Specialized to send me a new bike. In the mean time, the dealer is giving me an EVO off their sales floor to ride until my new one arrives. They said delivery could be two weeks out. The dealer is really standing up for me. It would be easy for them to say it's a Specialized problem and there's nothing we can do.

I truly believe its about having a good LBS that is into your style of biking. Ebikes are great fun, but even the great ones still seem to need service.

You might just fall in love with the EVO version.

This is why we buy from Local Bike Shops and gladly pay extra for the privilege. Nothing built by the hand of man (or robot) will be perfect or free of issues. The mark of quality is how the people who produce and sell the product stand behind it and keep you doing what you paid to do. So far I am liking this story. Hoping for the happily ever after.

Oh yes, I have the same sentiments and will require the same fix, i.e., replacement.
