Converting Class 1 eBike to Class 3 eBike

I have a class 3 eBike that I purchased first and later I purchased a class 1 mtn eBike. Both eBikes are used only on the road. Of course after experiencing the class 3 eBike and a 28 mph assist, the class 1 eBike with a 20 mph assist was rather annoying. It isn’t that I want to ride much beyond 20 mph, but encountering that assist drop-off at 20 wasn’t acceptable to me. So I recently purchased the badassBox 3.4 for Bosch, which I installed on my class 1 eBike, a 2018 Trek Powerfly 5. To install all I had to do was slip the device over the Bosch Sensor and pull a round rubber band over a hook. Then I moved the sending magnet towards the hub according to their video and turned it 90 degrees. It took only minutes. I spun the wheel and the speedometer functioned indicating it was functional. Later I went for a ride and experienced no hesitation or drop-off anywhere in my desired speed range! J

The manufacture does not ship from Germany to the US, so I purchased the device on Amazon.uk.

The device registers the correct speed to 16 kph (10 mph) and then halves it as the speed increases from there, thereby allowing double the speed before the assist disappears.

I have a Garmin 510, which I use to determine speed, and since the Purion speedometer on my eBike is on the left side of the handlebar I only use it to change assist levels!

Nice features of this unit are easy installation, no codes to start or stop the function, and no disassembly or wiring. You could also easily use it on multiple eBikes, provided they were powered by Bosch. Lastly it can be quickly removed before you take the eBike in for warranty service or for a ride on bike paths with enforced speed limits.
 
I don't know the trail access situation in Germany, but those types of devices are going to create problems in the U.S. for those of us trying to get class one pedal-assist access on mountain bike trails.

Why would they pose a problem? You're not going to climb faster than 20mph and sure as heck any bike goes downhill faster than 20mph. The only time you're likely to go faster than 20mph is on flatish roads where speed pedelecs are already present.
