Shimano SLX M 7000 Interceptor: Platinum Edition Chain Slap

When I pedal hard my chain slaps the chain guard on every revolution. How can I adjust the DERAILLEUR or the chain to stop the chain slap? Thanks, Steve

Hi @Steve5767

Check out adjusting the"B"set screw on the derailleur, this will put more tension on the chain!

Below is a link to a Park Tool Derailleur Adjustment video that starts at the "B" set screw adjustment.

Except the clutch only tensions the chain at the bottom, not the top. Also, if you are pedaling hard, the frame and/or crank is moving left/right, and the clutch only takes care of up/down. Do you really mean slap, or is it more of a rub?

My guess it you just need to massage (bend) the mounts of the chainguard so it is further away from the chain. Alternatively, just get rid of it altogether, because unless you are wearing bell-bottoms, it does just about nothing.

I get this occasionally on my Platinum Interceptor. Usually, cleaning and lubing the chain & derailleur solves the issue. If not, adjust the chain tension as Paul Auclair suggests above.

Thank you, I will try the adjustment and try adjusting the chain guard. I checked and the clutch arm is in the up position.
