Those guys must have been awfully tired after all that pedaling.

EDIT: I was referring to the first video; at least in the second one they actually rode them as bicycles sometimes.

European law does not allow you to homologate with engines/motor over 500w currently in design.

That's odd. I can set my 1200w peak hub motor to only put out 50w and anything between if I want via my Cycle Analyst III and controller.
 
I use the walk mode and that's a lot less watts for the engine, but the walk mode with me uploaded to my haibike does not get me moving from the place and what will it be¿ 25 or 50w ?.
When a motor starts at second 1 the motor does not consume its design watts, it consumes the design of the multiplicative order of 2x or 3x of its nominal value and if I lower the consumption of a 2000 wa 250w there is not enough electrical excitation to generate the starting , because the winding is still 2000w and supplying 250 does not produce enough start excitation.
That's why none of these high-power motors are lowered by 50% because you also have an efficiency below 80% of the wattage you deliver. It's less efficient.
Law EN15194 year 2017 Europe That law tells you that the electric kits are forbidden in all their versions

and that the motors have to be of nominal design 500w maximum, you can not put any motor above those watts in design, without access to the controller, the 2000 w hub does not comply with this homologation, so he puts the 2.5 to fulfill the homologation and tells you in a section that you still need a support kit to be able to fulfill it.


It is a very strict law because it demands a few maximum characteristics, without access to the controller to be able to safely limit the top speed 25km / h
