The inventor, Benjamin Bowden was way ahead of his time in the field of industrial design.

Benjamin George Bowden (3 June 1906 – 6 March 1998) was a British industrial designer, who is known mostly for his work on automobiles and bicycles.

He was also the designer of the Spacelander, a space-age bicycle which was commercially unsuccessful when in production, but has since become a collector's item.

Bowden also designed the body of Healey's Elliott, which, in 1947, was the first British car to break the 100 mph barrier

There always seems to be a decent population of advanced thinkers, designers and problem solvers. Unfortunately there is a much higher population of naysayers who will shut them down or try to destroy them if the slip through the cracks. How we have survived all these years as a species is a mystery. Seriously.

BTW, if you're ever in Pittsburgh it's well worth a couple hours: free admission, sustained by donations and the bike shop revenue.

We have the Bowden Spacelander, the first fiberglass bike made and one of the most sought after bicycles. Only 30 or so to be found, Bicycle Heaven has 17. We have close to 6,000 bicycles vintage to new under one roof.
