Battery removal

I have a 9 hour road trip ahead of me. I will be putting my e-bike on my bike rack. Should I remove the battery for the trip?

TIA!

I always do. We do an 1100 mile run twice a year as snowbirds. For security, and to avoid any chance of it getting water where water shouldn't be. If you have a nice display, placing a sandwich baggy over it and secure it at the bottom with string or whatever will keep the baggy in place to protect it as well.

Most folks I know remove their battery during transport. In addition to the things mentioned above, it makes the bike easier to load by reducing the weight you have to lift.

Depending on the battery type, there are various ways to protect the contacts on the bike. Something as simple as a piece of plastic wrap covered with an ace bandage will do for down tube batteries.

On long trips, I also like to protect other sensitive bike parts like displays, handlebar controls and even the seat. I found these silicone stretch bowl covers are handy to use:

For the handlebar ends, I like to use these waterproof arm protector sleeves:

Welcome to the forum and I hope you have a good trip!

Thank you….

The bike (Lectric) is 65 pounds…with battery.. my bike rack (Thule Easyfold XT2) can hold up to 130 pounds. It’s not the easiest battery to remove. Was hoping I wouldn’t have to…
