battery charge time

If I have a battery that is 8AH and a charger that states that it has an output of 1.8A, does that mean that it will take about 4 hours and 27 minutes (8/1.8=4.444 hours) to charge? Or is there another way to determine this? Thanks.

1) Only if it's completely depleted and you're charging it to 100%, neither of which is recommended on daily basis.

2) No blinking light anywhere on the charger, eh? ...

Yes, there is "another way" - measuring the voltage. I purposely put it in quotes because this is how a decent charger would work - measuring the voltage and cutting off at the right moment. If it doesn't, then you should (i.e. measure V and turn it off). Or get a better charger, the one that can be preset to certain voltage or % capacity.
