Bafang have been watching my videos.

Some of those videos from ebike motor repair shops telling of so many motors ruined by water ingress, and how rubbish the seals are! It affects countries like UK and Irl because basically we're involved in a water sport most of the year. But did the e bike companies think everyone lives in deserts?! A lot of their promotional vids have happy people on dusty bikes somewhere hot so maybe they did.

No issues with water ingress for any of my Specialized e-bikes.

Giant Trance E+ happens to experience some issues of this kind (notoriously damaged displays of two kinds, the remote not really water-tight, temporary issues after water ingress into the motor chamber... the motherboard is located really low there).

During the history of my both Specialized e-bikes (Vado and Vado SL) I happened to ride through water as deep as the motor was fully covered (not once!), and I do not avoid riding during rainfall.

It's all brands and especially EMTBs obviously as they are driving through what is practically rivers of muddy soup for a lot of the year. The mechanic at the Specialized dealer who replaced my motor just shrugged and said over half Spesh bikes get motors replaced. And today, 15 of July it hasn't stopped raining since the middle of the night. The UK EMTB message boards are full of chatter about motor replacements and repairs and it seems to be all major brands. This recent thread chats about skipping Specialized's warranty as worringly, Spesh Uk are taking much longer to do replacements and the ebike centre does a better job of waterproofing the motors they overhaul, as water is the main issue.

No, you get freezing Russian style winters and extremely hot summers, typical continental weather patterns. Out in the atlantic on these islands, we're mild and wet. And it's water ingress into motors I'm talking about. UK has double the average rainfall of Poland and as the East side of the country is fairly dry that means the west parts like the Western Highlands, Wales & the West Country gets up to four times the average rainfall. Mild and very f***ing wet.

Not quite. Poland has mixed maritime and continental moderate climate. We usually get pretty mild winters and two hot months. There is a lot of raining (not this year though).

When I took a Hubdrive Motor out of its Housing It became clear to me they can't be "Waterproof". No Water should get in while one is riding upright. If you Motor gets submerged past the Cable tunnel, Water will enter and can't get out.
If you suspect water got in, its probably best to remove the Motor asap from its Housing because that is the only way I can see to dry the Motor out and prevent corrosion of the inside electronics and Bearings.

Cheers

The bafsng bbshd seems pretty fully waterproof, all connections are o ring sealed and on the end of wires that come out of the control through strong seal joints.
Oh and Ive ridden one completely submerged for 30 seconds without any problems.

My Diving Watch is "Waterproof" and proved it when I was a Helluva lot younger.
The Hubmotor of my eBike is "Water resistant "meaning it will shed Water unless submerged.
This problem area is nearly impossible to seal where the Cable comes out besides the Axle.
If you have a "Waterproof" Hubdrive, good for you because if you don't and Water gets in Corrosion
will eventually make for a nasty repair Bill.

Cheers
