Aventon Pace 500 frame bend

My Pace 500 was into a car crash and my rear wheel was completely destroyed, everything else looked fine. I took the bike to the repair shop and the guy said "frame is bent at rear triagle (5mm), and is at the limit of what would be conisdred repairable. If the customer decides to move ahead with repairs, they assume any and all liability". I took the bike back and did not fix it, but they I decided to check the frame alignment myself using the strings method and the bend is 2mm or a bit less.

Was he just trying to make me buy a new bike? or avoid any liability or is it really not repairable?

Thank You.

What's the total repair cost vs. a new bike?
buying a new rear wheel from aventon could cost between C$400-C$500, it could cost less if I add spokes and new rim to the rear hub motor because the motor was not damaged. new Pace 500 is C$2,299

I think maybe he's telling you he'd rather not work on your bike....

Glad to hear you're OK.

Yeah probably.
Thank you for asking, It was a very close call. I had the right of way and the vehicle next to me suddenly turned right and my rear wheel got stuck under his tire. I'm very lucky to be alive. Stay safe out there people.

So .. someone right-hooked you and you have to repair your own bike? Huh?
Alloy frames are not repairable. Do not try to bend it back.

2mm or 5mm, neither is very much and might not even be noticeable, especially if it is in fact just 2mm.. If the dude that hit you is paying, go after him for a new bike.
