RIP m@Robertson - Tale of Two WHeels

He will be certainly missed. He was such an ambassador to the e-bike community with a wealth of knowledge and experience he was only too happy to share.

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

Not in my state in my country either. Doesn’t stop them though. It’s usually teens on off-road dirt bikes and there have been deaths where they have hit people,

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

Best thing to do is read your policy and confirm your understanding with your insurer. My policy is more concerned with how you ride it and who can ride it (min age limits) rather than what you ride……for now.

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

For now my home and contents insurance covers public liability and property damage for my family when riding our e-bikes. Next time the policy is up for renewal they (and e-rideables) will no longer be covered……. regardless of speed.

    Narrow Wide Chainring: Chain Placement.

Of course I knew about the proper alignment! 😉. When the time comes to change my KMC e9 chain on my other ebike, I’ll need to check if the same applies.

    2022 Levo 2.2 motor replacement

Not the longest lasting motors based on what I have read on EMTB forums. I think one guy is on his 5th or 6th motor 😳

    Narrow Wide Chainring: Chain Placement.

I don’t have a choice of positions. The 12 speed SRAM chain only fits one way on the Wolf Tooth NW chainring.

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I’ve been tempted to buy a UART motor whilst there still available for a future project bike. Would love play around with the tune to see what can be achieved with the programmable motor.

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I agree, but there alloy chainring bolts not so much. I bought a set with my chainring but snapped one when torquing to spec.

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I'm using an alloy Wolf Tooth chainring, which bolts up to the stock Ultra spider. I’m at circa 2,500 klms for the chainring, chain (SRAM GX) and cassette (SRAM NX 11-50) with no problems (Shifter and derailleur are GX). I guess the larger diameter chainring is spreading the load over more...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I’m 57 so I’m not sure if I’m young…… or just young at heart. Yes I love power and speed. I’m certainly very happy with my 60v Canbus Ultra motor on my Frey Beast which is quite well behaved. It does run a 28A controller rather than the typical 30A controller, yet the importer quotes it as...

What front fork to get for e bike?

Given your speeds I would suggest a fork with 38mm stanchions that is rated for a 220 mm brake disc. My 60 volt 1800 watt 60 klm/hr limited mountain bike came with a RockShox Zeb which fits this bill. The Zeb range comes in various specs and travel.

    The likely incoming 750w limit

In Western Australia where I live, we only are legally allowed to ride class one ebikes. Approved helmets are compulsory and e-bikes can only be ridden by the 16+ age group. In my neck of the woods I can’t say I’ve observed under age e-bike riders. They’re usually riding two up on electric...

Building 3000w 72v ebike, need some advice.

Suggest you join the Facebook Bafang G510/M620 and M630 private group for ideas and advice. some of those enthusiasts are building Bafang 72V 6000W e-bikes. Personally I think 3000w in a hardtail is dangerous, dual suspension is “less” dangerous with far better suspension compliance at the...

    Custom Charge Profile

I like the 97.5% charge, I didn’t think of that one. Whilst I setup custom charge profiles with a choice of amps in practice I find I only use the OEM 2 amps for my 48v battery and 5 amps for my 60v battery.

    Custom Charge Profile

I’ve set custom profiles and both of my Satiator chargers for my 48v and 60v batteries using my Windows 10 laptop. I didn’t run into any issues and found it to be a reasonably easy process. You do need to be mindfull of the of the amp capacity of the type of plug for your particular battery if...

    Helmet Safety Protection Ratings

The rating is relative to the other helmets submitted for testing. Your helmet is still 5 STAR rated, it‘s just that there are now 102 other helmets rated better…..obviously helmets have improved since the previous test relative to yours.

    Seth prefers Schrader valves

Maxxis do a 27.5 x 2.00/3.00 tube which will obviously fit a 2.8 tyre which is OEM for the rear mullet setup on my Frey Beast. It’s not a threaded schrader (like the AV19 schwalbes on my other bike) but the stem is 48mm which is ample length to grip with your fingers when locking on the schrader...

Ebike-Specific Chain Versus Regular Chain for Mid-Drive Ebike (Pictures!)

Just saw this timely post over on the EMTB forums with a member sharing their comparison of chains, SRAM XX1 chain compared to a couple of Shimano chains. No measurable wear on the XX1 chain. Sounds like the XO1 and XX1 chains are the ones to buy. As mentioned above, I’ve also been surprised by...
