Cost-Benefit Poll: Electric Bike to Replace Your Car or Motorcycle

For commuting, a year ago I switched to my bike at 20 miles roundtrip / 20-25 mph. I still use the car in bad weather though.

iZip E3 Peak vs. Stromer Sport vs. Pedego City Commuter

I voted for the Peak since I like my Dash a lot, but I'd test out the hill-climbing ability before buying.

    Demo Problem

I've had good experiences with Motostrano, where I bought my E3 Dash, while shopping, negotiating price and afterwards with service. As to test rides... the sales guy hovered over me for the first one or two I took out but after that I just went down the row and took each out and went down to...

IMBA World Summit: What did both sides commit to..or not?

I thought that last was consistent with the IMBA's belief that it 'owns' mountain bike policy - that the IBMA is deeply qualified / knowledgeable when it comes to public land issues and the e-bike industry needs its help. Doubt that... it's the IBMA membership and potential negative publicity...

IMBA World Summit: What did both sides commit to..or not?

Electric mountain bikes are powerful topic at IMBA World Summit (link) "...Larry Pizzi, president of Currie Technologies and a panelist, said the industry is cognizant of the issues these bikes raise. “The industry wants to make sure we do the right thing, and in no way do we want to jeopardize...

    2014 E3 Path+ Issues/Conerns

Possibly a good suggestion! I replaced the tires before I brought my Dash home and haven't the problems you've described, just hands off high speed coasting where I feel the onset of a wobble.

Will your child (or grandchild) have the same opportunity?

August's issue of Bicycle Retailer & Industry News will include an article considering the question, Do electric mountain bikes belong on the trails? and reviewing the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) plans to discuss the question at next week's World Summit in Steamboat...

Seattle design wins best commuter bike (mention of electronic hill assist)

Fun - that's really clever. That battery is about the size of my kindle though. I'm particularly impressed if they're actually riding a 3d printed frame.

Need help funding a documentary about e-bikes

Good luck! I did a long ride on a motorcycle with a friend through extreme north Atlantic Canada, and carefully calculating range to empty and logistics in advance for potential repairs was a fun challenge. Sounds like you'll be in for much the same process.

    My new Carbon...

Sounds like a great way to overcome some adversity, but I've almost exclusively commuting on my IZIP Dash since April and love it. I do bring my bike inside every time, since the racks are far out of sight.

Do bike manufacturers have the right to privacy when resolving problems?

I think we can also admire the manufacturers' willingness to sell a product to a public that's practically guaranteed to underestimate its sophistication and overestimate its maturity. As you said @calvin, some problems will almost certainly occur. In a way it seems to me, that they really...

Do bike manufacturers have the right to privacy when resolving problems?

I caught your other post and am glad you took the time to highlight it with a new thread. I did have the bottom bracket torque sensor problem on my Currie E3 Dash, and didn't post anything about it until I had finished the troubleshooting and repair process with Currie's tech support and local...

    2014 E3 Path+ Issues/Conerns

I can confirm that my E3 Path+ will wobble when I ride no-hands above ~18 mph. I'll have to try it this week to see if I pin down the speed a little better. "Death" wobble, well maybe if I didn't damp it by grabbing the bars! o_O

Do you think electric bikes should be considered mountain bikes?

Catching up on this thread and I'll add my answer in response to the subject: no. Electric bikes below the power / speed restrictions should be bicycles indistinguishable from any other type - cruiser, tour de france racer, penny farthing or mountain bike. This not to dismiss or denigrate the...

Will your child (or grandchild) have the same opportunity?

These really are early days in adoption and recognitions of e-bikes. Basic law regarding e-bikes is unclear and sometimes unfavorable. Here in California e-bikes may not use bike paths distinct from paved roadways (though local ordinances can permit it), and some (like NY) apparently don't want...

    EBR Ad on YouTube

Your reviews have been great, and adding pricing would be amazing. I wonder if you might add some detail to the reporting on batteries and some (frankly) realistic range estimates. Maybe a "manufacturer's" and a "real world" estimate? The latter could be based on some formula, or even a test...

Why do people use ebikes? Infographic!

That's a great plan @Vandon - it was mine and it really works. This morning we have unusually warm and humid weather and the only reason I'm dithering about riding to work is there's a chance of a thunderstorm. If I don't think I'll actually get rained on, I'll just use a lot of pedal assist /...

Why do people use ebikes? Infographic!

I need the exercise and when I commute on my e-bike I get it... and lose the excuse that I don't have time to work out. Plus I'm a nerd and love playing with cool tech.
