Soma Wolverine 4.0B Gates Carbon using Rohloff SpeedHub

Hi George, I wanted to build a bike withe the Gates system and the Rohloff hub. The bike has 1,500 miles on it, and to say I'm smitten is an understatement. I'm spoiled....I've purchased a 54CM Soma and will build the same set-up for my wife. It only took me 7 builds to finally find the DIY...

Yes please post their response. I'm going to assume it will work since you are using the Carbon Drive Chainring and they're referencing the Bafang Chainring. CMJ

That's the one if you have the chain ring with 5 fasteners. That's great for alignment, you should be fine. CMJ

Gates refers to this alignment as the belt line. Since you already have the Gates system installed and you have the Rohloff installed I will measure my belt line offset from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the chain ring. I'll also measure my bottom bracket and let you know...

Yes it does with the California E-Bike Chain Ring Adapter listed, you can see the assembly clearly in one of the pictures. I can provide part #'s for the Carbon Drive components. The cog is 20 teeth and the Chain ring is 50. A word of caution, the Soma frame geometry allows the cog and chain...

Final pictures...Now I know why people who use the Gates Carbon Drive swear by it!!! I have never ridden one, but all I can say is WOW, absolutely no noise from the drive train, and smooth as butter! The bike rides extremely well, handles bumps well, stiff frame which I like. For the $3,500...

"Care to share the details of the Rohloff dropout?" If you are referring to the piece I made to prevent the axle from rotating refer to the two pictures: Picture on the left - The metal piece I machined is thru bolted on top of the bike dropout screwed into the brake mount with 5mm socket...

"May be you can explain to future readers how you were able to get the chainline perfectly straight." Put a machinist 24" scale on the chainring and hub gear. If the drivetrain is out of alignment it would show as either a gap at the rear gear, in which case you need to add spacers to the...

Internally Geared Hubs (IGH) systems - Rohloff vs Pinion

I can speak to Rohloff's durability. I've been trying to break the one on my commuter bike for 4 years with no luck.

    1000w battery 2000w motor

W=V*A What's more important is the C rating, which defines how quickly a battery can delivery power. Here's a very good explanation of battery terms: http://web.mit.edu/evt/summary_battery_specifications.pdf

Soma Wolverine 4.0B Gates Carbon using Rohloff SpeedHub

Here are some pictures. Have everything but the drive belt, due Monday. Really a simple straight forward build. The only "tricky" part was making the piece to attach to the Rohloff SpeedHub and the dropout that prevents the Rohloff axle from rotating. I had to make a custom piece in my...

The advantage of being 65 years old. That's all in the rear view mirror.....Bikes essentially done, just need rear brake cable and a 35C tire for the rear wheel.

1st e-bike conversion, talk me up, or talk me down!

???....I have three bikes with BBS02 mid-drives, one has almost 15,000 miles on it. The other two combined have about 7,000, never had a problem with the gears. The only problem I've ever had was a burned out controller prior to the MOSFET upgrade.

It's been a while....haven't felt the need to build another bike after the Titanium/Rohloff/BBS02. Need a project, so why not a Gates Carbon driven Rolhoff combination? Pictures to follow, the bike is about half assembled.

    Broken spokes

My 1st ebike was a 2014 BH Emotion Carbon. I had issues with broken spokes at the hub constantly. I spent too many hours repairing broken spokes, I moved on to building mid-drives bikes using Stan's notube rims and Rohloff 500/14 IGH with Sapim spokes and haven't broken a spoke in 4 years...

    E-MT1000 750W Mid-Drive Project

Haven't looked at any electric tandems so it's hard for me to comment. I'd probably still retrofit a good tandem instead of buying. I would use a mid-drive and instead of a rear derailer, I'd use a Rohloff Speedhub. Court J.
