Winter biking with e-trikes: my experience

Independent rear suspension on the hybrid etrike/ scooter allows for some leaning in curves, feels more like biking, suspension can be adjusted for best compromise of stability and comfort ride, low centre of gravity is essential, seat height is only 55 cm ( 22 inch ), semi recumbent design...

Winter biking with e-trikes: my experience

Looks very comfortable, we had already our first snow here in Alberta, Canada, but now it is melting away again. I am sure you will enjoy when it gets slippery, nice backrest for lumbar support. I am presently working on an independent rear wheel suspension, each wheel has its own suspension...

    Front tire conversion not working

Some batteries have on/off switches, make sure it is in the on position.Installing another new front motor will not give you more range, only a second battery will increase the range. Yes , it is normal that it sparks when you connect a battery to the controller. On my display screens I have...

Canopy added to hybrid etrike/scooter for some weather protection

Most of the time I ride with power level 1 for the two rear wheels , that is sufficient for flat level pathways, if there is a gentle uphill section or a bit of headwind I add the front wheel with power level 1. For gentle hills I use the front wheel throttle, for steeper sections I use either...

Canopy added to hybrid etrike/scooter for some weather protection

Canopy added to hybrid etrike/scooter for some weather protection

That might be even lighter but the sideview through the cape might not be as good. But if it is foldable it can be easily transported, a great idea we can learn from them. Own road area with no cars is the only way to go for micromobility as they now also starting to do in Europe.

Canopy added to hybrid etrike/scooter for some weather protection

For one of my hybrid scooters pictured in an earlier post I built a canopy for some weather protection. It is made of a 1.5 mm Lexan sheet as a windshield , some aluminum angles and thin walled corrugated Plaskolite sheets. The canopy is removable and can be mounted in 15 minutes. For windy or...

    Hello! Diving into EBikes

Absolutely right, a throttle is essential in traffic for that instant acceleration, I would not ride without one ! Have you ever started on a hill with pedal assist one ? You have to press the power button a couple of times to get to power level five. That's why the throttle is so handy...

Winter biking with e-trikes: my experience

Very nice bike, but expensive, my dual motor conversion costs only half as much. I go shopping with my e-trike, can transport much more groceries than on a bike. With a large load in the panniers the bike gets too unbalanced and it is difficult to ride and a bit dangerous. With the trike...

Winter biking with e-trikes: my experience

Thank you for your mail, you trike looks great ! You might get better propulsion in the winter with wider tires, my neighbour has put 29 inch tires on 700 C rims, seems to work. I like the trike in the winter, I do not have to worry about crashing on snow or ice. You can still add a motor front...

What's Needs to be Done if E-bike Kept In a Cold Garage?

I have stored my ebikes and etrikes in an unheated garage and shelter all winter without batteries for seven years down to minus 35 deg. C ( Alberta) with no problem. When the temperature is not dropping below minus 5 deg.C I leave the batteries ( LG,Panasonic )in the bike and also charge them...

    Dual Motor off-road bike conversion

Front and rear wheels have torque arms of course, I would not ride without them.Yes, going on gravel or soil requires caution, especially when it is not packed, I am only an occasional off-rider.

Winter biking with e-trikes: my experience

No need to postpone biking in the winter, some hardy people do it with studded tires on bikes on snowy and icy pathways, some even go without studded tires and fat bikes which is okay when the pathways are dry, otherwise dangerous and scary, especially on downhill sections on ice. I have seen...

    Dual Motor off-road bike conversion

Spokes are 12wg, I do not go down very steep hills, I am an active senior , well adjusted V-brakes with good brake pads are just fine for gravel roads, works great on moderate terrain, the battery weight in the rear does not make a big difference in the center of gravity location.

    Dual Motor off-road bike conversion

Converted my older bike into a dual motor version for off-road riding, 2 motors 500W each, peak power 1400 W, max torque 160 Nm, top speed 45 Km/h, one rear rack battery 36 V with 16 Ah , a second battery 36 V with 15 Ah in the triangular middle section of the bike which contains also two...
