Thanks. My brakes work great, and I'm only aiming for an extra ~5 mph. I can adjust watchfulness and reaction time, if that's the concern.

I bought an Aventon Pace 500 (commuter, not mountain), and find that I use gears 6, 7, and 8 almost all the time (not too many steep hills around here). And even in 8th gear, I am pedaling furiously with no resistance just to keep the assist on, maxing out at about 28 MPH. I could go faster on...
