Vado SL 5.0 - power setting to compensate for bike weight

I use RideWithGPS and it will add the Garmin radar bar along the side. Since I know where I'm going :), I just use RWGPS for ride stats. The iPhone Varia app is a full-screen view of the road behind, and of course gives a nice beep when it detects a car (or bike). Nice. And yes, a MUST.

Vado SL 5.0 - power setting to compensate for bike weight

@mschwett .... yeah, the south gate ride is gorgeous. I really like that it's got a fairly level section in the middle, compared to the north gate "all up" ride. I have not done Mt. Tam, but I'd like to sometime. Beautiful bike! Is that an S-Works Aethos? Do I see a Garmin Varia radar? I...

Vado SL 5.0 - power setting to compensate for bike weight

@mschwett ..... yikes! You got that right! A power setting of 4% is essentially no assist at all. What this tells me is that my friend is a hell of a lot stronger than I thought, and way, way stronger than I am. His road bike does have a very low gear, including a small front chain ring, but...

Vado SL 5.0 - power setting to compensate for bike weight

Thank you, Stefan. My friend is definitely stronger than I am. And he is willing to push harder and longer than I am. It seems there is no simple way to determine a power setting that will make a 35 lb bike feel like an 18 lb bike. Too many variables. I'll continue loving my SL 5.0 and...

Vado SL 5.0 - power setting to compensate for bike weight

Wow.... thanks guys. Jeremy... it's been 60+ years since I took high school physics, so I must confess that I didn't follow any of that. :) (That is physics, right?) I'm not sure what my friend weighs, but let's say 210lb. As for speed, it varies of course, but I'd say between 5-10mph...

Vado SL 5.0 - power setting to compensate for bike weight

I regularly ride my SL 5.0 with a friend who is on an 18lb. road bike. We typically ride up (and then down) a very steep mountain--3,500 vertical feet in 12 miles. I couldn't do it without my Vado, and even using the motor, it's hard work and a great workout. I'm sure my friend works harder...

    Vado SL 5.0 -- Maintenance suggested/required?

I appreciate your comments. The service options are for all of the bikes the LBS sells, so many of the items don't apply to the Vado SL 5.0. I think I will stick with Tier 1 and have the brake pads and chain checked.

    Vado SL 5.0 -- Maintenance suggested/required?

I purchased my Vado SL 5.0 in September, 2021. The odometer now reads 1,722 miles (not much). According to Ride With GPS, my elevation climbed is 208,418'. My local bike shop, Mike's Bikes in Berkeley, CA, is recommending a service every two years, and that sounds like a good idea to me...

    New Spec App?

First ride today with Specialized app. It truly seems to integrate the features of Mission Control and Ride. (As noted above, there's no ability to save custom presets, and I don't see Smart Control.) The Auto-Pause feature works perfectly, and the post-ride stats shows total time and moving...

    New Spec App?

If it does, I don't see it. In addition, as my post noted, I don't see a way to save custom presets in the Tune section of the app.

    New Spec App?

Hmmm.... I'm not sure, but what happens for me with MC, with auto-start enabled, it starts recording when I start riding, but if I stop for an hour or so, it will stop recording and not start again when I continue the ride. I also use RideWithGPS and auto-pause works perfectly with that...

    New Spec App?

Based on comments here about the Specialized app, I've held off on downloading it and continued using Mission Control and Ride. With the availability of Version1.4.0, I decided to give it a try. The new version looks clean and simple and I'm guessing I won't need Mission Control or Ride. A...

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

Yes. My Vado SL 5.0 and RE were both updated. Each done separately.

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

@kahn, I went back to the bike shop this morning and they updated the RE. It took about ten minutes. I brought the bike with me, but it wasn't needed. They did need the bike serial number to do the RE update. Yesterday, when they did the bike update, I left it there for half an hour. I'm...

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

I didn't take my range extender yesterday when I had the update done. I connected it to my bike this morning and Mission Control shows that an update for it is available. How dumb that I didn't take it with me!

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

@mogulman.... I agree with you 100%! I have just submitted a support request on the Specialized website telling them what happened and asking them to compensate me for the $50 with a gift certificate to their online store. Given that Specialized cutoff my dealer (Mike's Bikes) because they...

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

I got the firmware update today, but service from Specialized leaves something to be desired. I purchased my Vado SL 5.0 in September, 2021, from a dealer that's ten minutes (via bike) from my house in Berkeley, CA. It's Mike's Bikes, and they have 14 stores in the San Francisco Bay Area...

Pre-sales advice: Vado 4.0 for Seattle hills?

Here's my vote for a Vado SL 5.0. I'm 75, in reasonable shape, but certainly not an athlete. I live in the Berkeley, CA, hills and ride with ease all over town and through the hills. I've only spent a little time in Seattle, but I think you'd do fine with this bike. I regularly ride up Mt...

Vado SL 5.0 saddle isn't comfortable

I wear padded shorts too, but my butt hurts in way less than 60k. I'm trying adjusting the stock saddle, but haven't ridden yet with the latest adjustment. I'm moving the saddle back and lowering the seat a few millimeters. Stefan said lowering the seat a bit helped him. REI, a US dealer, is...
