Is it possible to have: class 3, mid drive, belt drive, torque sensor, with throttle, under $4000?

The only things I’ve seen speced like that are the WattWagons offerings. OTOH those are 2-3x a $4k price point.

    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

Ah OK. I was skeptical due to the specs and Sondors not mentioning what motor they were running. The Sondors LX & Crusier along with the Rize RX are top contenders for my next bike. I assume the motors are all canbus requiring a swap to a UART motor if you want an aftermarket controller.

It doesn’t appear the Sondors is an Ultra.

    mid-drive torque-sensing FS options

I haven’t seen anything that would indicate the TSDZ2 is any more or less reliable than Bafang or even Bosch mid-drives. It seems like many of the stories of them failing were due to people pushing them past what they were designed for.

Starting my bike conversions.... no questions yet...

If you are using an IGH or single-speed setup there are some options for a stronger chain. For derailleur gears just make sure you aren’t using a narrower chain than you need to, say a 10 speed chain with a 9 speed cassette.

What Shops Work on This Bike?

REI will work on any brand of bike. However like most shops they won’t deal with electrical problems unless it is a brand they sell. (Bosch, Shimano, Specialized). Finding someone to work on electrical problems on an ebike can be a challenge. Best bet is to call around until you find someone...

    Espin 21 Sport

I bought my espin Sport in August. There are a bunch of advanced settings you can get into with the default password the bike will only get up to 24 MPH or so on throttle alone. I haven’t really messed with any of the settings as the factory defaults are more or less reasonable.

Belts are the BEST bicycle drivetrain - Test data

The Enviolo is one of the heaviest IGH’s out there. It’s a full kilo heavier than a Rohloff or Alfine 11.

Local Bike Shops and upgrade or repairs to Internet purchased EBikes

Maybe $25 for the brake bleed? Given the rear hub I can see a $25 surcharge on anything requiring removal of the rear wheel. So add that to parts and labor if you need pads or a rotor. Similarly $25 for spoke replacement/truing and $25 for wheel removal is reasonable.

Be honest... are color LCD displays just a bad idea for riding in sunlight?

Yes monochrome LCD screens tend to be much more readable in full sunlight. There are color displays that will work well in daylight but they tend to be very expensive and therefore something you aren’t likely to see on an ebike.

    mid-drive torque-sensing FS options

Have you considered getting a good light FS frame and using the Tongsheng TSDZ2 to do a conversion? The wattage is somewhat limited compared to the Ultra but not as much as with Bosch/Brose/Shimano mid-drives.

    Rec'd Rad Rover 6 today - BIG

I have the Sport and It is a great bike. I will say it is fairly large. I have a 32 inch inseam and the bike feels “big” to me when mounting, stopping, or standing over the top tube. The Flow is a better option for most (even if it is $500 more). That said the Sport is only 55 lbs which is on...

You Really Do Get What You Paid For (Motors)

I’d love to see some Bafang Ultra builds that aren’t fat bikes. My use case is commuting/utility so I’m not really interested in full suspension or mountain bike geometries. The closest I’m seeing to what I want out there is the WW UC2. There are also some nice Bosch mid-drive options out...

Local Bike Shops and upgrade or repairs to Internet purchased EBikes

REI is very good about working on non-electrical components of ebikes. Many of the direct to consumer brands recommend using them for a LBS. Some areas have shops that are more focused on repairs than new bike sales, these shops are typically willing to take on any work not involving the...

You Really Do Get What You Paid For (Motors)

There really is no excuse. The principles of bicycle geometry have been long understood. There are many examples of well designed upright and semi-upright bikes that are stable at low speeds.
