A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

Say it isn't so!?! : 0 I have been trawling Craigslist for an older steel-frame bike with 26" wheels to retrofit with a torque-sensing mid-drive as I enjoy the one on my Evelo Dash. I've looked at the Tongsheng in the past and now more recently have been looking into the Photon. My goal is...

Specialized teases details of Globe Bikes sub-brand Cargo eBike

Its been said that there's two ways to have the tallest building in town; either you build it, or you tear down all the others. Jeremy McCreary recently posted this in another thread, "Why Roadies Don't Smile-funny article I just read"...

    Evelo Dash information

Electrek, Electric Bike Review, and Electric Bike Report have all recently posted reviews of the Dash. I watched all the videos last week. The reviews are based on the newer five-speed model. Allowing that we have a pair of three-speed versions, I don't recall seeing anything I greatly disagreed...

My new to me 2021 Tern Vektron D8- Bafang m400 motor

Thanks! I wasn't trying to sound snarky about the Dash and the cut-outs. Yeah, the cost of my not tinkering on some things is that sometimes I end up paying retail. I have been pretty consumed with a home remodel and some travelling and a few other semi-major projects over the past few years...

My new to me 2021 Tern Vektron D8- Bafang m400 motor

So, I might be a bit slow on the uptake here, but would you mind posting your goals in changing out the gearing, the controller, and adding a throttle? As I understand it you've replaced the derailleur freehub and cassette with an IGH, and replaced the controller to accommodate a throttle and a...

That looks like a pretty nice setup, but don't post your address, these people are desperate!!! ;)

Sounds good. But, hey, we gotta quit talking about the weather and start hearing more about that bike here!

My new to me 2021 Tern Vektron D8- Bafang m400 motor

Naw, we’re up in the Pacific Northwest, in the Puget Sound area. That makes sense about the batteries! Swing by and come see us when that heat gets a bit much down there. Up here, 100 degrees makes the NEWS!

My new to me 2021 Tern Vektron D8- Bafang m400 motor

Is that a Vektron? It would be inconvenient for me to swing by your place just now, but I'm sure willing to check out the bikes for you up here! I will post a full report! ;) I guess the battery inside the frame of the Dash is supposed to be elegant, maybe even intended as a win-win by making...

    Evelo Dash information

It's nice to hear that they are shipping a new bike and not messing about. Given that they don't have their bikes available for test rides and purchase in local shops, I understand from different sources that they go out of their way to facilitate service through local shops, including quick...

Actually, my using old cardboard is shameful!!! I like the towel idea; maybe you will inspire me to revise my ways! I think I have some carpet pad around here somewhere... We ran across a woman at a railroad trail who just sort of wrestled her (Rad Mini?) into a Ford Escape or similar with...

    Evelo Dash information

Personally, I think there's some kind of narcotic in Brompton's colors, especially Turkish Green, so that's just not even fair to mention that! I can't seem to find any mention in this thread(?) but when I first unboxed the Dash, I affectionately dubbed it "the hog" on account of its robust...

Argh, now I'm trawling the internet looking at bicycle-related stuff! Or, alternately, Yay, now I'm trawling the internet looking at bicycle-related stuff! Schwalbe has some interesting information on rolling resistance here: https://www.schwalbetires.com/tech_info/rolling_resistance...

    Evelo Dash information

I personally favor as low a tire pressure as feels safe for the riding conditions in order to increase the comfort factor. Battery range has not been a limiting factor for us so far, but we are casual fitness riders and generally ride at conservative speeds, typically 12 mph or less. With a bit...

    Evelo Dash information

We get by with 30+ psi, usually about 5 psi higher in the rear, but it depends on the load and the riding conditions. We tend to frequent paved surfaces and ride at moderate speeds.

Ah, good, maybe we'll start seeing people's impressions of the updated five-speed model soon. In my day, we only had three speeds, "but we liked it" ;)

We have a couple of derailleur bikes with Shimano trigger shifters and we really like them. Click up, click down; they provide easy, no fuss, indexed shifting. I'm not fond of twist shifters, which is what our 3-speed Dashes have. The twist shifters require that one consciously grip the...

    Evelo Dash information

I see in my emails with Evelo that they require keeping the mileage under 75 miles on the trials. Only one of these open-box bikes is over that figure. I had mistakenly recalled the trial mileage limit as being much lower. So, these two appear to have been an open-box bike with <75 miles, and...

    Evelo Dash information

Either the 40-inch wheel base Evelo has published is incorrect, or they have radically changed the bike. Not to speak badly of them, they did have incorrect tooth counts on their cogs/sprockets published for quite a while, so the 40-inches might just be an error in the published wheelbase...
