Nice Lamere! Basically the Shimano version of my bike. Johnny 5's are unstoppable. 👍

    Winter Sucks

I'll agree he has it mixed up, as most tests have shown. However, if you're including all the really good studded fat tires in the "horrific" comment, that's not just an exaggeration, but very laughably false. Are really good studded fatbike tires as good as the better studded skinny tires on...

    Brighter Headlight using existing wiring?

No. The controller simply won't support a powerful light (6V, 3W max): If you want a powerful light wired to the battery you need to tap into the battery directly. I used an Anderson Tap from Grin to wire in a FisherFab (3200 lumens) on my Ultra bike. Serious PITA to wire in. But a super...

Bafang m620 gear sensor extension cable

Of all the bazillion builds you've posted, I haven't seen any with the Ultra. Please read explanation above.

Bafang m620 gear sensor extension cable

If it was intended to confront, it would have addressed you. The subject comes up a lot from lots of different people (PedalUma's post case in point) so I figured further explanation would be of benefit to everybody. As explained above, I was unable to eliminate it to my satisfaction (without...

Bafang m620 gear sensor extension cable

Exactly. All the technique in the world is completely meaningless if the motor is still pulling on the chain like a runaway freight train for a noticeable period of time after pressure on the pedals is eased or even stopped completely. With tuning, I've been able to greatly reduce the overrun...

Bafang m620 gear sensor extension cable

Clearly you don't. I can explain it to you if you like. If you were riding mythosaurs in 2014 I'd give you props, but I'd still point out that experience may not be relevant to this very specific application.

When is the last time you climbed a 30% grade in max power mode with the M620?

Or for those with motors that have overrun (such as the M620, the subject of this thread)....

    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

Oooo, Mama! That's the first thing I've seen that would make me consider a new build over my E06. I guess I need to abuse my E06 even more so I can break the frame and give me an excuse to replace it....

Lessons Learned After Owning A Fat Hydra’s For A While

Good stuff Cuz Vinny. But if you don't mind, I'll offer an alternative perspective on the below. Another solution is a different drivetrain. Having run quite a few different tires, including some quite good ones (Van Helgas, 3.8" Gnarwals, Wrathchilds, even Johnny 5's) on 65 and 80mm rims...

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

You're probably better served sticking to whinging about "People for Bikes" in 20 different threads every day and taking a step back from technical arguments, the fundamentals of which you have no understanding.

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

You're making some big assumptions. As Deafcat said, the motor has an internal 6:1 reduction and the chain drive brings it to a total of 10:1 reduction. Comparing that to the Ultra (since it's the mid-drive this motor is billed as a replacement for), it has an internal gear reduction of 18:1...

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

And naturally, it has never occurred to you that many here have less than zero interest in the types of bikes you build, or your opinion on any matter, but realize it would be in poor taste to go out of their way to say it for no good reason.

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

Assuming the motor has no problem with enough torque when limited to 750W, it's that "generous supply of amps" that is the next concern. Whether a motor has a 0-100 RPM range or 0-100,000 RPM range doesn't really matter after gearing--it still has performance curves proportional to that range...

Bafang Ultra "Smooth" tune by Mike at Frey

I'm pretty sure those refer to motor speed (RPM), not bike speed. My bike feels identical with the speed limit set to the max as it does when it's set to 20 MPH...until I hit 20 MPH obviously.

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

Yes, exactly like I said in the first place. Thank you. Nobody said it can't be done. I only said if it is done, it's not from some magic that happens by making it a single speed. As you say, the motor needs to be a completely different animal. The CYC isn't a great example though, as it...

New motor: Made in Canada, 2022 Mid-drive system

For the third time, your "concept" of how this works is just wrong. There is no magic. A motor with a single gear ratio is a motor with a single gear ratio. Forget about pedaling--people with Ultras usually have throttles and are well aware of what they are capable of doing (and what they are...
