    Off-road hills for large rider < $2,000

REI has Co-op e bikes that could be considered too. For example CTY e2.2 Shimano steps e6100 60nm torque mid drive with 500 Wh battery, front suspension, currently on 20% off clearance making them more affordable (https://www.rei.com/product/172496/co-op-cycles-cty-e22-electric-bike). But my...

Are newer hub motors as capable as mid drives?

I think he is talking about watts, he says most mid drives are 250 watts neglecting to cover the bafang mid drives. At least for me sustained torque output is more important. I don't care how fast I go, I just don't want it bogging down and crapping out on me when I need it.

    Off-road hills for large rider < $2,000

Compiling some more budget friendly options and curious to hear other's opinions and suggestions. Goal budget is to stay under $2,000 before tax. Could stretch to $2,500 if it checks every box. Intended use is mixed, riding flat pavement with a kid trailer sometimes, brewery tours, etc. Other...

Are newer hub motors as capable as mid drives?

I have been under the impression that hub drives don't work well for heavy loads on steep hills, especially at lower speeds such as scenarios where the terrain limits your speed due to tight or technical riding. My understanding was the motors work best at certain (high) RPMs, and the hub motors...

Aventure.2 motor power - how does it compare to a mid drive?

@Ben J thanks for the test, that's really helpful and pretty impressive from the motor. If you don't mind sharing, roughly how much weight on the bike with rider + cargo?

Aventure.2 motor power - how does it compare to a mid drive?

I would be pedaling unless somehow it was too difficult with the torque sensor vs cadence. Have you ever overheated the motor? How long did you have to wait for it to cool off and work again?

Stuff I added to my Priority Current

I would think the fork would be a better option, but have never tried the stem posts. Did you do this?

Prodigy XC fit for tall riders

How is the fit of the prodigy XC for a tall rider? I'm 6'4" and wish they offered a larger frame size, but curious to hear others experiences.

Aventure.2 motor power - how does it compare to a mid drive?

What are the limitations of the bafang hub motor in the aventure.2? I am more familiar with mid drive motors, and was under the impression hub drive would not work as well for steep prolonged grades. I was told otherwise by a LBS selling the aventure.2. For example, could the hub motor handle...

    Specialized releases Turbo Tero X

@Sopa good to hear. Do you feel like the Tero X is fairly capable on the single track you have taken it on? I'm more used to big 29 x 2.6 wheels so the 2.35 max width is giving me some hesitation.

    Specialized releases Turbo Tero X

Are you still pleased with the comfort of the ride? That is my hesitation on going for a turbo levo, I get uncomfortable after about 5 miles of pedaling that far forward and down. The turbo x seems a bit more upright and less aggressive, do you think that is accurate after using it?

Choosing FS e-bike for large rider for mixed offroad / paved trail use

I'm thinking I will get the Turbo Tero X, 5 or 6. I demo'd some of these bikes and it was just really comfortable ride. The 28 spoke wheel had me looking at other options but I think I'll just replace them with 32 or 36 spoke wheels if they crumple. The brose motor couple with the drive train...

Choosing FS e-bike for large rider for mixed offroad / paved trail use

In your opinion, what are the benefits of the e-SUV over the e-MTB? As I understand it e-SUV would apply to bikes like Turbo Tero X (compared to e-MTB Turbo Levo) or Powerfly (compared to Rail). Other than being slightly less expensive and more likely to come with racks / fenders installed...

Choosing FS e-bike for large rider for mixed offroad / paved trail use

Thanks for all the helpful info. Regarding weight limits, is the bike's weight already factored into the total system weight, or does it need to be added? For example, specialized user manuals are pretty clear that rider + cargo must not exceed 300 lbs for turbo levo alloy or turbo tero x. So...

Choosing FS e-bike for large rider for mixed offroad / paved trail use

Hello everyone, I am curious to get some insight into what e-bike might fit my use. I plan to use this both for cruising a paved bike trail, but also for offroad use. Primarily riding gravel forest service roads, but some dedicated single track. Typically I don't ride beyond green trails on my...

Rambo hunting e bike as a road bike?

Are you still liking this bike? It's being sold by Costco for $2k with front/rear racks and fenders and a waterproof panier bag. Reviews there are negative, but on paper looks good. Also, have you found a way to upgrade the battery to larger AH? (Like an aftermarket one that fits the connectors...

    Relationship between watts and torque?

But, at least hypothetically, with the bafang ultra 620 with 160 nm of torque, even with power limited to 750 watts, you could still climb up the same hill you could do with that motor at 1500 or even 2500 watts, just more slowly. It seems that it is not going to be the case that all of a...

    Relationship between watts and torque?

Perfect that's exactly what I was looking for. So at least on paper from a theoretical physics standpoint, you still get the same ability to provide significant force, just at lower RPMs. Sounds great to me. In practical application, does this tend to work out as well? I suppose the main issue...
