After a ridiculous amount of thought I'm going to start my Kona Hoss BBSHD build

I did not know that the one nut existed, thanks for the heads up.

Commuter Ebike for heavy rider (ended up choosing RR(Ride1UP Prodigy ST)

Once I had the tools and parts together it only took a few hours to put together but I must have spent days figuring out everything that I would need and making sure I had it all ready for the installation. I do have a lot of mechanical experience with working on other motor vehicles but I...

After a ridiculous amount of thought I'm going to start my Kona Hoss BBSHD build

Aug 2022, the big nut that holds the motor in the bottom bracket finally came loose. Tightened it back up and she is good to go again. The 26x3.0 tires have been nice but they are really too big and don't have clearance if any mud or other debris gets picked up so I'm taking them off and putting...

Commuter Ebike for heavy rider (ended up choosing RR(Ride1UP Prodigy ST)

I went through a ton of research when I replaced my old A2B Metro ebike a couple of years ago. At 350lbs and 6'2" I'm hard on bikes, in the end I could not find a bike that I was confident in the strength of and was within my limited budget so I converted my old 2006 Kona Hoss into an ebike with...

QR skewer & disk brakes claimed as a contributing factor in fatal accident involving a RadRunner

I've never heard of this sort of failure before, I can picture how it might happen if the wheel is in the air and has enough rotational energy but in the real world I don't see it happening. Especially when the center of gravity shifts forward and effectively traps the wheel between the ground...

After a ridiculous amount of thought I'm going to start my Kona Hoss BBSHD build

It is Sept 2021 now and I love my Kona Hoss with the BBHD conversion. This past week I used it to carry in and then out all the supplies for my buddies elk hunting camp. It was great, the BBHD with 42 tooth ring and 46 low on the rear cassette makes what used to be a fairly stiff hike a breeze...

    Out of stock

I did buy some black ties and the dam things are so weak they brake just doing them up. Said screw it and used the strong white ones for now.

Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

I have two 10.5ah batteries on my bike and I run them in parallel due to them being 15amp rated and I'm using them with a 30amp rated controller.

After a ridiculous amount of thought I'm going to start my Kona Hoss BBSHD build

The 500w 48v kit showed up Monday and after driving around to find some M6x20 Allen head bolts (73mm bottom bracket on this bike and the supplied 15mm brace bolts needed to be 20mm) and 6mm spacer washers it only took me about 4 hours to install. Took it for a 13km test ride with some...

    Out of stock

The kit showed up April 26 and is now on the bike, works great!

    Out of stock

I am trying to be nice and give them a chance to sort it out, however another dealer does have the item in stock and I'm concerned that if I give the first place another week or two to sort it out I might end up not being able to get it at all with the current shortage of bike related parts.

    Out of stock

After two weeks I should not have to contact a vendor to ask where my parts are then be told they are out of stock... the vendor should contact me to tell me this themselves and they should change their website to say they are out of stock.

    Bafang Ultra pedal assist

Not sure about the Ultra but if it is anything like the BBSHD it should be fine. I keep my BBSHD on level 1 most of the time and the display says it is only putting out between 20 and 50 watts most of the time which give me a comfortable workout.

After a ridiculous amount of thought I'm going to start my Kona Hoss BBSHD build

Due to how much fun I've been having on the Hoss I'm getting ready to fit a BBS02 48v 500w kit to my Mom's bike. I've opted for the smaller motor for her bike to be legal and safer (she's in her 70's and this bike has rim brakes). I'll be fitting a 42t bling ring and 11-42t cassette along with a...

    Hub drive or mid drive.

Old bike was an Ultra Motors A2B Metro (500-750ish watt direct drive hub motor I believe, I don't recall what gearing it had), new bike is my old Kona Hoss with a BBSHD 11-46t cassette and 42t bling ring.

    Hub drive or mid drive.

Having changed from a hub to a mid drive the climbing ability of the mid is dramatically better than the hub. Also a major unexpected bonus of the mid drive is the ability to use the power a lower speeds than a hub. Low gearing and a mid drive allow low speeds without risk of...

Anybody swap out their chainring for a smaller one for better climbing?

Depending on the bike changing out the rear cassette might be a good option. I replaced my 11-32t with an 11-46t in conjunction with a 42t bling ring and this is great for climbing hills while still capable of high cruising speeds.

After a ridiculous amount of thought I'm going to start my Kona Hoss BBSHD build

The BBSHD with 42t bling ring and 11-46t cassette is a hill climbing machine. I took it up a huge single track hill today that would have been hard to push a bike up let alone ride it but this thing powered up with only moderate effort on my part. I think it could have done it without me...

Chain ring too close to frame

I'm using the 42T bling ring myself but I have no idea if that will fit your bike. As for the spacer the only problem is if the screws are too short, if they are just get some longer ones.
