    Pedal assist VS Throttle?

I vote both. I mostly use pedal assist riding on roads and park trails, but when riding on rail trails, since they are mostly level grade, I sometimes turn off the pedal assist and just use throttle to get up to speed and get through intersections faster. So, its nice having both options.

Electric bicycle, folded, for large riders

I have an e-JOE Epik SE (2015), its a folding bike and is rated for 300lbs. For comparison, I also have an e-JOE Anggun step-through bike (also rated for 300lbs). I've ridden both on the same steep hills and there's no comparison, as I have to use all the gears on the Anggun and put more effort...

    Pedal assist too powerful

Where I ride most of the time (Chester County, PA and Valley Forge National Historic Park) there are not a lot of flat stretches, so I use pedal assist regularly. But, when I have taken my Epik on rail trails I have switched pedal assist off and just used throttle to get up to speed and to get...

    Pedal assist too powerful

If think the main issue with the Epik is the gearing, although I'm specifically speaking about the SE. Basically, the Epik is geared (intentional or not) to be a good hill climber. So, I actually like that it is geared this way because often I ride in really hilly areas. But, when you get on a...

How do you lock your Epik SE?

I have the Epik SE, and yeah, that's pretty much the only way you can lock the frame of this bike. A cable can then be used to lock the wheels (to the u-lock).

    People are strange

There are several reasons I ride an e-bike. 1. I live in a really hilly area. 2. I hadn't ridden a bike in over 15 years (I'm 40). 3. My knees have seen better days. 4. I enjoy riding a bike to explore, and would like to maximize the distance I can go (see #3). I don't find any of these reasons...

after fire at crazy lennys concerns about storing batteries....?

Ugh. Yet again contemplating a concrete block battery bunker for storing and charging my e-bike batteries. I'd love to keep it on my garage's concrete floor, but it gets way too cold in there in the winter to be a permanent location. The basement is the next best option, but then if there is a...

    This happened..! Very upsetting

I hope they get back on their feet soon. I love my e-bikes, but I admit this is always something in the back of my mind. I have three e-bikes and I remove the batteries and store them in their own individual steel tool boxes. I only charge them when I'm present. This gives me some peace of mind...

    Anggun and Epik SE

On level ground, I usually cruise along at 15mph on the Epik, which I find acceptable. On the Anggun its usually a few mph faster. Its pretty hard to get up to 20mph on the Epik by pedaling because it requires a much more rigorous cadence than I'm comfortable with.

    Anggun and Epik SE

I went for a bike ride with a friend this past Saturday, he road the Epik SE, I road the Anggun. Granted he's probably a stronger rider and I weigh more, but he was always passing me with ease on the hills, even staying in the highest gear (something that would have stopped me dead on the hills...

    Anggun and Epik SE

Last week on the Enola Low Grade Trail (along the Susquehanna River) in Lancaster County, PA with the Epik SE. I keep a spare battery in the bag (just barely fits length-wise). (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) (Link Removed...

    Anggun and Epik SE

Today on the Schuylkill River Trail with the Epik SE. (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) For those who know the area, I went from Valley Forge up to Phoenixville and back, then down to near Conshohocken and back again. Mostly the Schuylkill River Trail, but also a small portion of the Perkiomen...

    Battery charging

I don't see a spark, but I "sometimes" can hear an audible electrical "pop" sound when connecting my E-JOE Epik SE charger to the battery. I haven't experienced that with two other ebikes, but I have not considered it a problem. I agree it can be disconcerting. :)

    Optimizing the E-Joe Epik Se

1 lb is a rounding error when you consider the weight of the bike and the weight of the rider. And I've done the exact opposite of removing the rack. I have it loaded up with a u-lock, some tools, a couple spare tubes, and (for long rides) a second battery! The Epik SE battery is around 5 or...

    Quick release latch issue

@Temecularider Yeah, that's why I figured I'd post a video to make it clear what I was describing. I definitely was not relying on the plastic part to keep the latch from opening. The latch requires some decent pressure to lock/unlock. The plastic piece is just extra insurance. My main issue was...

    Quick release latch issue

I did you one better... You can see when the plastic piece is rotated into place on the clamp, it causes the clamp to move away from the frame slightly. Then you can see the "play" of the clamp even when locked into place, both with the plastic piece in place, and when the plastic piece is...

    Quick release latch issue

I would say at this point I don't feel my Epik has an issue. While there is still some movement to the clamp in the locked position, the plastic piece keeps it from moving to the point where it would unlock (and it still wouldn't do this on its own anyway). The clamp is still doing all the heavy...

    Quick release latch issue

So, I just checked it again, and I found the plastic piece definitely needed tightening, which I just did. That pretty much resolves any concern I have. While the clamp itself still has some play, it appears to me to be solidly clamped and isn't going anywhere with the plastic piece now...

    Quick release latch issue

What I meant by "play" is that the clamp itself has a small range of motion even when the "bolt head" is engaged. The frame and hinge does not have any play at all, it is tight.
