    People are strange

Exactly! I live in Chapel Hill, NC where the hills just make cycling, especially in heat and humidity difficult. The E bike flattens the hills! And as you say, it gets out in the fresh air, turns on the endorphins and reduces traffic and pollution. What's not to love. That other smart aleck...

May 2015 ST1 now on 3000km and going strong. Love it! It is the vehicle you take instead of the car.

Excellent report. I live in Chapel Hill NC, also a little hilly, and yes, the motor really saves one on those hills. Abus locks are the way to go. I didn't go to the expense of the Stromer city kit, but got some nice fenders in REI and some good high viz rechargeable lights (a lot cheaper!)...

Poll... How is your Stromer holding up?

Great bike, love it. Rear gear change clunky at times, even with oiling and adjusting. No other issues but its low mileage yet (500 miles). Just use it for commuting locally in Chapel Hill, NC, a surprisingly hilly little town. Lost my spare battery compartment key and Stromer says I...

    ST1 keys

Well what do you know. On a whim I tried the wife's battery compartment key (she has an older Stromer Sport, and the key teeth look quite different). The lock isn't state of the art obviously - her key also work on my bike!

    ST1 keys

Yes it has a serial number. But apparently that doesn't mean much. But thanks, maybe I will try stromer directly.

Thanks, I don't need to do that (yet) unless I lose the last key!

New ST1 Elite Owner Looking for Advice

My local REI have said they will service my ST1 elite for me if I need it.

    ST1 keys

Anyone have any luck cutting a spare key for the battery compartment for an ST1 elite? I lost my main one, and would like to always have a spare. NYCE wheels and Stromer are saying I need to replace the entire lockset for $50 plus shipping, despite my having the serial numbers of the keys, and...

Ordering an ST1 - should I add City Kit?

I got some nice fenders in REI for around $20 (they really are nice, although I only fitted the front one in the end, as the rack does a fairly good job on the back), and a super bright light set - rechargeable USB Cat Eye (Amazon), a fraction the price of the overprices Stromer kit........

Does anyone know what size seatpost collar the Stromer requires?

Yikes, I agree - why not have pre installed fittings for a rear rack, since many people do use this bike for commuting, and their other models (my wife ST Sport for example) have ones. Anyhow, rest assured, you can get this done. I too bought the Sunlite Bicycle Rack Seat Clamp, 34.9mm, Black...

    New ST1

Darn. I didn't even try to negotiate the price on my ST1. I assumed all the same.......

    New ST1

Wow so Lenny shipped from Wisconsin? I hadn't been aware of him. Have to say nyce did a good job. Wife and I were in the actual store last year, test ride her Stromer sport and although it's a tiny shop, they seem to know their business.

Does anyone know what size seatpost collar the Stromer requires?

I just added a similar seat post collar too (from Amazon see below) to fit a rear rack, although I needed a little rubber fill to make it fit snugly. No problems at all. Now the question is why stromer didn't include frame screws / bolts for a rack on the ST1, like they do on some of their...

I better come clean here and say I'm nowhere near a bike expert and feel a little out if my depth on some of this!

    New ST1

The geometry on July ST1 is gorgeous. And so far I don't think I need the suspension fork (but then again I'm not off road much). It feels really solid. See the picture. I've kitted it with a rack front Mudguard and a few other little odds and ends. I love it so far! P.

    New ST1

Sorry for delay. I love the ST1 so far, but bear in mind I only have it a week or so, and the heavy recent rain has meant I haven't been able to ride it too much. But I think its streets ahead of the iZIP dash that I had last year (briefly). The Elite has good torque for hills, and the ones I...

Does the ST1 only fit certain rear racks?

See photo. The mudguards I got in REI, "Beavertail", Universal front and rear, Made in Germany. The rear looked OK, I just didn't bother installing.

Oops.....typos in first posting - "hilly part of NC" was what it was supposed to read (Carrboro / Chapel Hill)....

I just added a similar seat post collar too, to fit a rear rack, although I needed a little rubber fill to make it fit snugly. No problems at all. Got a nice mudguard set at REI, and fitted the front one, didn't bother with the back (they were only $17 the pair) and the rear rack catches a lot...

    New ST1

Oh thats great thanks, I didn't know REI would service it, good to know in case I have any trouble. They are good guys in the REI bike shop for sure. The other bike shops around town seem to dislike E bikes! From a purist standpoint I think....? Cheers.
