2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

@RabH - As always your photographs are sumptuous. This time, however, your photos of the Trossachs National Park rock strata ending up sending me down the internet's fascinating geological rabbit hole when I decided to find out on what page in earth's geological history book did the Campsies...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

My friend and I had planned a ride yesterday, a nice outing to enjoy the autumn views and a midway stop at an upscale restaurant for lunch. The outdoor weather, unfortunately, had other plans. The morning brightened with cold temps and an even colder wind, not at all to our liking. We mutually...

Yes, thank you. We're doing fine, but my riding has been severely limited by the exceptionally high scorching temperatures and/or unrelenting rain we've suffered this summer here in Virginia. My bikes were actually gathering dust and cobwebs in the garage (I kid you not) this summer as the...

Guess this is self explanatory (aimed at the non-horsey types that like to stop on the road to pet random horses)

Just as a forward- in a different thread, I've mentioned, a time or two, that I had adopted 8 miles of local road (through Virginia Dept of Transportation's Adoption program) and thus pick up litter quite often during my rides. Today, about 1 1/2 miles from home, as I was scooting down a lovely...

I don't know why this intrigued me, but... during a recent bike ride around the block I noticed this poor battered truck which I hadn't seen the last time I'd cruised my local road. It had been placed in the upper parking area of a local farm's driveway, I'm guessing for the eventual last ride...

So...a M3? Sweet car. Your brother needs to try out FSD at least once. It's free right now. Who knows if a trial like that will ever come around again.

A deputy, actually. Curious to hear the rest of your tale, you scofflaw you.

@RabH wrote: "I think I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this was my best local ride ever, it was just utter perfection for the whole ride!😁" I read this as the abysmal rains came down outside in Northern Virginia, just as they had been doing this entire gray, foggy, cold, miserable...

Yup. The mountain views, slope of the road, and the estate lands are at their best when riding Rokeby to Delaplane. Not as scenic going the opposite way. Delaplane is a beautiful road from start to finish, and a fast ride thanks to it being paved. The initial climb up the Blue Ridge towards...

You were brave to test your endurance against that terrific wind yesterday. Just watching the local trees bend and gyrate their heavy thick trunks in the wind like they were made of flexible putty was unnerving at best, and downright scary when the winds screamed. I was actually out today when...

@RabH - was thoroughly enjoying your story of your ride...until I read about the abuse hurled at you from those motorists after you were so kind in pulling off to give the entire road to the old lady. ☹️ I'm glad the rest of your ride was beautiful and enjoyable. I haven't been contributing...

    solar generator

Right now the only way to become independent using solar is to have a battery - like a Tesla power wall or a battery from a junked electric car repurposed for storing the solar energy for use when needed - tied into the house's main electric At the moment we have solar panels (we're Net Zero...

First e-bike for a 68 year old - buying help needed

I have two carbon belt drive Gazelle 380+ (28 mph assist). One is a 2022, and the other is a 2023. I wanted a maintenance free, no fuss, easy to ride bike made by a well known company that produced a quality product, plus I wanted a carbon belt drive so that I didn't have to deal with...

Sorry. Forgot the international scope of this forum. Yeah, Rivian is still US based, and I assume will be for quite some time. It is 6 inches (15.1 cm) longer than the Ranger, but shorter than an F150. Supposedly a Tesla Model X can tow 5,500 lbs.

There is. It's a Rivian. My R1T can pull 11,000 lbs. (Apparently 1,000 lbs more towing capacity than a Ford Lightening)

I envy you not having to make any more trips to the gas station. I still have to go for gas and diesel for the small and large tractors. Sucks that battery garden tractors and zero turns still aren't ready for prime time beyond the suburban landscape. For farm use they just aren't capable as...
