My review of the 2020 RX

Sounds to me like you have a defective battery or the brakes are rubbing if the range is so terrible. The clicking sounds mean your derailleur needs adjusting due to cable stretch. Chain will need to be shortened as well.

No more SparkBike, now it's Rize

Yes I'm aware of the rad sale but even then, spark bikes offered more bang for buck. For $1400, Rad bikes offered 14AH batteries, 40nm direct drive hub motors & mechanical disc brakes. For $1500 spark bikes offered 17AH batts, 65nm geared motors & hydraulic brakes. For $1200 spark bikes...

No more SparkBike, now it's Rize

The brands you mentioned all sell for at least $2000 CAD, spark bikes were going for $1200-1500 during their clearance sale last year. Spark bikes is also the new kid on the block compared to the established brands you mentioned. Anyone expecting actual customer service from a start up with...

No more SparkBike, now it's Rize

This is to be expected, you get what you pay for. Spark/Rize bikes are cheap because they don't budget for customer service/support. Clearly it wasn't a battery issue from the beginning so there was no need to send that in. Personally I would've just asked them to send me a replacement LCD and...

No more SparkBike, now it's Rize

All 48v packs above ~17.5AH rating are in a 6p config, so 78 cells total.

No more SparkBike, now it's Rize

Yes but they sell in Australia only.... so I doubt they can sue for trademark infringement.

No more SparkBike, now it's Rize

I wonder why they did this. Is it possible to declare bankruptcy then register a new name/owner then continue operations?

Looking at buying the Spark bike (the 19 inch frame one with the fenders etc)

The stock tires on the Spark are more than capable of handling offroad. https://bicycle.kendatire.com/en-us/find-a-tire/bicycle/legacy/small-block-eight-pro/ Increasing tire width by 0.5" won't make a huge difference offroad, tread pattern matters more.

Looking at buying the Spark bike (the 19 inch frame one with the fenders etc)

There's about a 7cm gap between the front forks so max tire width you'll be able to fit is 2.7". The problem is that actual tire widths are usually higher than listed specs. The Kenda Kranium tires on my Spark City are listed as 2.1" wide but I measured 6cm or 2.36" when inflated to 45 PSI.

I don't understand what you're trying to achieve. If you want wider offroad tires, then just get the Spark X which has fat tires AND an adjustable stem. You won't be able to fit much wider tires on a regular spark because the forks won't be wide enough.

PSA: Spark bikes could be using fake 18650 cells in their battery packs. Edit: confirmed LG M36 cells in 17AH pack

It was fun doing the test, I haven't seen anyone else do a discharge test on these Reention dorado packs so I figured why not. I asked sparkbikes & they said that the controller is 26A max. The motor has no limit and will use whatever amperage you throw at it until it overheats. During...

PSA: Spark bikes could be using fake 18650 cells in their battery packs. Edit: confirmed LG M36 cells in 17AH pack

Discharge test done @ 1-1.2A load per cell. I wasn't able to get a picture before the pack cut out @ around 38.4v output (2.95v per cell) since I had no idea what the BMS shut down voltage was. The final capacity was around 15.5AH which works out to about 3100mah per cell @ 2.95v EODV (end of...

PSA: Spark bikes could be using fake 18650 cells in their battery packs. Edit: confirmed LG M36 cells in 17AH pack

Yep those are LG M26 cells, the most common on ebikes/e-scooters etc cuz they're cheap and 10A rated output but their longevity sucks.

PSA: Spark bikes could be using fake 18650 cells in their battery packs. Edit: confirmed LG M36 cells in 17AH pack

I'm setting up a rig that will measure battery capacity while discharging using this watt meter: https://www.amazon.ca/Digital-Wattmeter-Checker-Balance-Voltage/dp/B07GJ33PT1 Should get some results this weekend. Digging further into LG cells, the M36 isn't officially rated @ 3600mah, but more...

PSA: Spark bikes could be using fake 18650 cells in their battery packs. Edit: confirmed LG M36 cells in 17AH pack

Got my Spark City 17AH today, popped open the end of the battery pack and immediately noticed that the cells are in light blue wrappers. This makes no sense because LG only makes two 18650 cells with this color, the MH1 which is rated @ 3200mah or the M36 rated @ 3600mah. The battery pack is in...

    Sparkbikes - SPARK 350W, 48V 13Ah, 26"x2.1" tires

To further complicate things, Lithium cells are also graded as well since there will always be manufacturing tolerances so the best cells go to the highest bidder. You can see the grade "B3" listed on boxes of F1L cells here: The grade is never printed on the cells themselves though. I'm...
