Does lighter bike make up difference in gearing advantage of heavier bike

Hi Volt. It will be the same rider and both bikes are Ebike. Total weight difference for bike and rider is 30 lbs. Heavier bike has larger gear range.

Does lighter bike make up difference in gearing advantage of heavier bike

Thanks Ravi. That is kind of what I thought but I had no basis for it.

Does lighter bike make up difference in gearing advantage of heavier bike

Looking at two different bikes. One bike weighs around 42 pounds with 42T cassette. The other bike has Rohloff hub with 50T equivalent and weighs 73 pounds. Does the lighter weight of the one bike make up for the gearing advantage of the heavier bike for hill climbing ability. Assume same...

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

I checked online and could not find any designation in Class for Ebikes. I am in North Carolina near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Pisgah Forest. I also stopped in at a local Specialized dealer to look at their Ebikes and they had none. The person seemed very knowledgeable. He said they would...

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

I did find out that Stromer will have a suspension fork available in January for the ST5. The availability date seems to keep getting pushed back though. A dealer sent me a picture of it so it does exist.

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

It seems like you are in the same position as I am in and considering the same bikes. The area that I live in is supposed to be mountain bike heaven but trails are in National and State Forests. For trails Ebikes are considered motorized vehicles and and not allowed at this time. That is...

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

Does that have the Bosch Performance CX motor (20 MPH)? If so do you feel restricted in speed vs the HS version?

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

That is my understanding and confirmed by the bike shop. None of the local dealers carry any Ebikes that I am aware of. That is one of the reasons that I am looking for a strictly road bike. If I get the R&M Homage and they open up the rules around here I can just swap tires and I will be...

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

I stopped at a Specialized dealer with a very good reputation and they don't carry any of the Ebike models. Where I live Ebikes are not allowed on any trails. The only offload place would be a fire road which is not anywhere near me. Also once you hit a gate on these roads you are not allowed...

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

Thanks Johnny. This was really helpful as I could not understand why the Watts for the Riese & Muller was rated at only 250 - 350 and the ST5 was, I think at 650W. The roads around me are hilly but most are gradual in the elevation change. My problem is to get to the main roads is about a 2...

ST5 vs Riese & Muller mid drive for hills

I live in a very hilly area of Western North Carolina. I recently retired and am looking for an Ebike to ride locally. The roads around my house are extremely hilly but are nicely paved. The main roads are not so bad but a few miles to get to them. Can anyone comment of the hill climbing...

    Optibike motor noise

Looking at the new R8C and comparing to Riese & Muller Homage w/ Rohloff/E14 and Gates belt drive. Would any current or previous Optibike owners please comment on how loud the noise is from the motor and the shifting characteristics of the Rohloff hub. Is there a torque sensor in the...

Riese & Muller Homage vs Optibike R8C

I live in NC near Pisgah Forest and the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Needless to say it is very hilly here. I am looking for an E-Bike primarily for the roads with some light use on groomed trails. I have done much research and have narrowed it down to the Riese & Muller Homage w/ the E14 Rohloff and...
