I think its better to use gears. The motor puts a lot of torque through the chain and cassette and using the smallest cog all the time will just speed up the wearing out process of the chain.

Just had my motor refurbished by performance line bearings. Peter did a fantastic job. Same day turnaround and replaced all the main bearings and clutch bearing. Cleaned and regreased everything and had the motor sent bike as good as new. Much cheaper than a new motor. Highly recommended...

Wow. Are the motor bolts tight when you do that ? I changed my motor bolts and nuts to titanium ones with 2 washers and a lock washer and the motor is nice and snug. I found the original bolts got rusty and the Allen heads started to round off little when loosening the bolts.

I upgraded to the 9 speed deore XT shadow on my giant dirt E+2. Medium cage. very nice derailleur. had no issues with it. Changed the jockey wheels to hope ones which have better bearings.

I had the same creaking. its the plastic cover of the battery terminal rubbing against the plastic engine cover. I have put anti seize compound on the motor bolts and cleaned the plastic covers around the motor and the creaks went away.

Are you seeing side play in the crank arms of is the whole motor moving ? A very small amount of play in the crank arm is normal on the yamaha motor I believe.
