    Ongoing issues with LMTD

I found your post about throttles, and once again I'm waffling about the work involved. Also your post about your accident, which reminded me I meant to follow up with a post about my friend's crash last year as you may get a kick out of the outcome: He and I ride the hills behind Santa...

    Ongoing issues with LMTD

Hey FnF, glad to see you're still causing a commotion on the R1U forum! But I hope you're wrong about the MXUS axle. So far I've got over 3000 miles on my 2022 cadence-sensor LMT'D. Max speed is 31 mph, which it can do easily but only when the battery's near full-charge. The MXUS motor...

Parts left over after assembling LMT'D

This is not a factory tip, but another LMT'D owner told me he had electrical problems because the wiring can get damaged by rubbing where it enters the top of the down tube. I used a couple plastic pieces (like the clear ones in your photo) as "rub rails" where the wires enter the frame. 1000+...

Thanks for the feedback FnF! Sounds like your new bike is working well and still providing opportunities to tinker. New 50T ring looks good. Whole darned bike looks great. I would kill to have a chain that clean. I’m still sold on this simple cadence rear hub bomber of an ebike. Takes more than...

I've been mulling over adding a 48T chain ring and was going to order the same ring that you used, then I noticed that yours was a 4-bolt pattern but mine is 5. I emailed R1U tonight, for some BCD advice. I also notice there is only about 1/4" of clearance between my stock 44T chain ring and...

Yeah, I needed to stay on top of things but I always got a quick response from them. Hey what is a "Higo"? I assume you mean the motor, just not familiar with higos. My new motor seems quieter than the first one. I suspect the new controller is the reason. Here's one for the R1U Rumor Mill...

How Error 24 was fixed on my 2022 LMT'D: At about 775 miles my LMT’D displayed an Error #24 message (Internal Hall Sensor fault) and quit. #24 can also indicate heat damage to wiring, a short-circuit, abraded wiring or just a loose connector. I hope this helps others that may run into the...

Bummer about the shipping damage. I guess I was lucky having only a bent front rim and rotor. My friends with LBS bikes say they feel sorry for my online bike troubles but I can tell they feel vindicated riding their ho-hum 72 lb cruisers that are “so reliable”. Ha! Thanks for posting the legal...

It turns out it's not that difficult to remove the stator screws, just takes more force than I was using. (Local gas station mechanic couldn't get 'em loose by hand either, and cautioned me against trying an impact driver, said it would "almost certainly" strip the heads.) In the end, I got so...

What a great bike! You'll have lot's of fun on that one for sure. My new stator motor is due this coming week so I removed the rear wheel and will take the motor apart as soon as I can figure out a safe way to remove the stator cover screws, which are apparently installed with LockTite and a...

Enjoy the new bikes! I've got about 750 miles on mine, and have been very happy with the stock brakes; quiet, smooth and very strong even at 25+ mph. Ride on....

The new bike looks great, kinda retro and I imagine a big step-up from the LMT'D. This has certainly been a learning experience, mainly 'cause the LMTD frame has so much wiring crammed inside. Fairly simple when most of the wires are color-coded, just physically frustrating when my fingers...

Ride1UP Core5 no assist or throttle

Sorry I missed your reply. My first ebike had a twist throttle on the right side, the way motorcycles are setup. There are a lot of old motorcycle riders like me who really wish more ebikes came with twisties. It's true they can cause accidental wheelies, but IMHO they are much better at...

Dumping your LMTD? What did you order for its' replacement? inquiring minds want to know. After all the improvements you made to it, the new one must be Good. My LMTD is still in limbo; after replacing the controller and the motor cable, it turns out I needed a new motor stator, ETA next week...

Ride1UP Core5 no assist or throttle

I believe Member Fast n' Furious put a 1/2 twist throttle on his LMT'D; his detailed post is here on the R1U Forum. Seems like it should work on a Core 5 as well...

Ride1UP Core5 no assist or throttle

Good job! As long as there's no error message on your display, the simplest solution is often the best one. That said, I think you got lucky. Many times these symptoms indicate a short from an abraided or crushed wire and those can be pretty hard to locate.

    Ongoing issues with LMTD

I have the ST frame; controller is in the bottom under the battery. Coincidentally, the bottom (back) screw on the lower assy. is also a little finicky and has to be attached before the other 2 screws. R1U agrees I can do the work myself, a good deal since the soonest appt. w/ my LBS mechanic...

LMT'D handlebar ends- easy to remove?

I've got these on both my LMTD and my previous bike; they're easy to adjust, not too big, and after 8+ years both look new. Listed on Amazon as Mirrycle Mountain Bike Mirror

    Ongoing issues with LMTD

R1U is sending me a new controller. I have my doubts but they have my photos and description of how the failure went down, so what me worry? Certainly a lot easier to R&R the controller than the motor so I will assume they know what's best.

    Ongoing issues with LMTD

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve been pretty thorough inspecting wiring, nothing found so far. My cable wrap stops where the wires enter the frame, and although some wires are touching the frame, I can’t find any nicks or signs of physical wear or crushing. The fact that the error message goes...
