Well guys, I had to go out and check on the rear shock after I just ASSumed mine was a 110- Monarch RL...... D'oh...... it's a Monarch RT3......... 190x51! The Rock Shox Bluto fork is a 110mm stroke. I think....

Why no Specialized e-assisted fat bikes?

@Chazmo: I know that Electric Bikes of New England over in Derry, NH was at one time, probably the biggest east coast Haibike dealer. At the time I was looking in 2016, it was either them or Crazy Lenny, who was probably the biggest Haibike dealer of all. Link for Electric Bikes of New England...

Rockshox Monarch RL... Doesn't fully extend?

Great job! :) We need more threads like this instead of the usual "I got a problem and took it to the bike shop for them to figure it out!"

Why no Specialized e-assisted fat bikes?

@Chazmo: Whereas the Yamaha powered ebikes by Giant ARE proprietary (those Giant SyncDrives are Giant specific), the fat tired Yamaha or Bosch powered Haibike fatties are not. So if you have either a PW drive like I do, or a later PW-X or X2 Yamaha, any Yamaha part found on the 'net will work...

Why no Specialized e-assisted fat bikes?

As for the Specialized e-fat, that was a Brose mid drive. And at that particular time, the Brose mid-drives would suffer internal belt failure. I still have my 2015 Specialized Fatboy, analog drive. It's a well-built bike; but I noticed that Specialized sure nickle & dimed you on the components...

Why no Specialized e-assisted fat bikes?

On Norco's website it appears their last model was built in 2023. I don't know the current state of Shimano mid-drives as to their reliability. But not long ago, these mid-drives suffered inexplicable failures by what appears to be through no fault of the bike owner. They just flat out and...

@Gionnirocket: Great stuff! Please consider doing a rebuild thread with lotsa pics!

Rockshox Monarch RL... Doesn't fully extend?

Yep, the Robert Axle thru-axle will not work for hub drives...... or skewer axles, for that matter, too. The OMM Phat Sherpa I got for the H-Bike required that I bend out the downstays so it would fit the OMM through-axle mount brackets. Not sure what this site has done lately in regards to...

Rockshox Monarch RL... Doesn't fully extend?

I have that same shock on my H-Bike Full FatSix (110mm travel....not sure what your travel is). After reading your post last night, I looked into the Rock Shox Monarch RL rebuild PDF on their website. I like to think I can take care of alot of issues on my rig, but taking this shock apart &...

    Haibike US Dealers

First off, when it comes to bicycle components like Brakes, Shocks, Tires, etc, a Haibike is no different than any other ebike or analog bicycle. For parts like that, I like Universal Cycles as well as Ebay. For the electric drive system, you have to differentiate manufacturers of the drive...

    Seth prefers Schrader valves

I really, really seriously doubt I am getting through to those MTB'ers and Fat Tired Bikers who venture off into deep sand...... or get outside with 4-6 inches of snow on the ground; but here goes: An added bonus of a Presta tubed or Presta-tubeless set up is that the actual tire valve is held...

    Seth prefers Schrader valves

Never had a problem with Presta's since I took to them in the late 1970's. To each, their own.

    Stranded on remote trail

She pushed her ebike for 20 miles...... good grief. The story, as typical of today's journalism, is lacking in the details; such as what brand ebike it was or why she elected to push rather than pedal her e......bike. I get it..... "she was in deep sand or too tired to push it any further". I...

Riding Towards Quality: A Call to End Low-Cost Compromises in the Bike Industry

@J.R. nails it with this post. So many good brands have exited our US market in the past 5 years and that void was filled with questionable junk from Mainland China. Those name brand bikes were outfitted with good components, ensuring great rideability and a long life. The good thing is that...

fat bike advice to my eye doc

@Chazmo: It's a privilege to be replying to one of the northern Californians who were out there with the first mountain bikes!! I'm a product of my particular environment here in Southern New Jersey; no mountains here, but plenty of deep sand trails in a place called the NJ Pine Barrens. THIS is...

fat bike advice to my eye doc

If you were around from the beginning like I was, you would know the apex of fat tire e-mountain bikes has come and passed. This site alone, when Court was running it, was probably as big an influence on e-fat tired mtb sales in the us as anyone else. It's worth it just to check out his reviews...

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

Friend of the forum, @Ravi Kempaiah was once setting speed and distance records on a Stromer, covered here by Court and at the now defunct Electric Bike Action magazine. Probably around the same time when Chris Nolte at Propel ebikes in NYC was going gangbusters. Haibike USA was the big kahuna...

    Yamaha Leaving US Market

Reading that letter, it's just the US. You know, that small, backwater market with only 360 million people! Which is the shame of it all, cause the Euro market is dominated by Bosch. And they get favorable press there, what with E-Mountain Bike Magazine's favoritism towards Bosch...

    Yamaha Leaving US Market

Now, I get to enjoy ownership of an e-mountain fat bike that features both a bike brand (Haibike) and it's drive system (Yamaha) that will both soon be forever gone from the US market....... Thanks, Haibike and Yamaha! I think what we're looking at goes beyond Yamaha. It's the result of what I...
