    Gas cans and fun findings.

I swear the engineers who design, and the regulators who pass the laws, never use these "safety" gas cans. I just gave up on cans designed for gas and use these potable water jugs instead...

Did a 45 mile ride on Pennsylvania's Armstrong and Redbank Trails Saturday. The Canadian wildfire smoke had cleared and it was a beautiful sunny day on the Allegheny River. I made the trip specifically to see the recently reopened Brady Tunnel. At just 2468', it isn't that long but it is...

    Show Us a Tool

Camming out with Philips when installing is one thing, but having it happen when trying to remove the fastener can leave you, pardon the expression, "screwed" I've had great luck with this Milwaukee impact driver. It's never failed to remove any type fastener with a stripped head...

    Throttle and brake connectors

As mentioned above, you might be able to find a replacement online, but your best bet would be to contact the bike maker. If you are proficient with fine wire soldering, you could also make up a replacement harness by buying individual pigtail connectors like these...

Those Wellsboro & Corning RR tracks are actually still in use. The trail is being constructed on the right side of the rails. Those rail conversions do look like fun but like where you are, most are still in use around here. Too much $$ in scrap iron to leave in place after the RR goes belly up.

Where do you keep your bike?

The truck is parked inside a garage so it doesn't matter.

Made my usual mid summer ride on Pennsylvania's Pine Creek Trail this week. The days were hot & humid but I hit the trail early to beat the heat. Work is progressing on the trail extension into Wellsboro with the 1.3 mile paved portion complete from the trailhead at the restored train...

Where do you keep your bike?

My bikes live in the back of my pickup in an unattached garage. That way, the bikes are ready to go on a moments notice. The rack & bike slide out of the bed if I need the truck for another purpose. The batteries are stored separately in another heated / cooled garage.

    “No e-bikes allowed”

A fellow I met on the trail last summer had an idea that has some merit. He was on a long distance ride pulling a Burley trailer with his fat tire bike. He had an array of solar panels on the trailer that he could deploy if necessary. He claimed that in about 2 hours, he could charge his battery...

    “No e-bikes allowed”

If you charge while eating a Big Mac & fries, I doubt you'll have a problem. 😄

    “No e-bikes allowed”

I've stayed at dozens of different hotels in my travels here on the east coast. It's been my experience that if I ask at the desk about in room bikes or battery charging, I'm frequently told "no". However, I have yet to see any signs posted, at any hotel I've used, that ban either. Consequently...

    Do you ride with someone?

I usually ride alone but sometimes with my wife & brother. I always carry a tow strap when riding with someone else. The only time I needed it, I bent a rim and couldn't tow the bike. Instead, I left my brother with the busted bike at a trail road crossing and rode his bike back to my truck. I...

Stuck at the end -L or Start -XL of bike size.

Most of my bikes over the years have been a size larger than I need, and all have worked out well. As I get older though, I find I need to use suspension seatposts. This means the seat tube height needs to allow enough clearance for the mechanisms on many of these quality suspension posts...

splicing Julet 4 pin tail light cable

I've used small bore spiral wrap in situations like that. It's available in sizes down to .25". It isn't perfect for preventing tugging, but if you apply it 6" or more on each side of the splice, it helps quite a bit. It also offers great chafe and crush protection. You can get a free sample...

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

It was called the "Emerald Necklace" back when I attended the U of Akron from 67' thru 70'. Perhaps the same time you were at Kent State? The riots occurred just before I left. A terrible terrible time indeed. I was planning a nostalgic ride on the Ohio & Erie Canal Trail this spring. It runs...

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Many states have similar programs and I agree, it seems counterproductive to keep e-bikes off MUP's However, in the case of NY, this voucher program is to give low income folks a cheaper form of on road transportation and maybe get a few vehicles off the road.

Charging port cover - won't seat

How about something like this: The outside flange should provide extra protection. About $1.50 US with different sizes available...

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

That incident, when I was asked to leave, was well over 2 years ago and E-bike popularity has increased since then. Perhaps the park rangers are simply looking the other way now.

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Without the battery, you have to look twice to see it's an e-bike. It's a hub drive with 26 x 2.2" tires, but the big down tube mounted battery gives it away.

Apparently, things have changed for the better in 2 years.
