    Does this summary do you justice? A. Mas came into the Veulta strong and needed only the mental changes brought by Tadej's departure to come up to the strength and drive we're first seeing now at age 31? B. Movistar — smelling a potential Vuelta win, and filled with national pride — suddenly...

    A very interesting sign to put up. Friendly warning, ploy to keep people off their land, or some of both? How many have really gotten stuck? But taking the sign at face value, what does that say about sat nav? Is there an easy way to tell the system that you got stuck here? Would anyone bother...

    By all accounts, we're now deep into "past performance is no guarantee of future results" territory with Mas and Movistar. The sudden and dramatic improvements are hard to fathom. According to Roll and CVV, Dan Lloyd, and many other credible sources, nothing in their recent histories would have...

    Oh yeah, was partly confusing the Tesoro with the Nytro.

    Q1. Are you scheming for a racier HPR40 e-road bike? Q2. What will become of all the upgrades you stripped off? Lots of $$$$ tied up there. Guessing some will end up on the bike's replacement.

    Only's still in the white jersey, but Omrzel is still a threat. However, no competition for the black jersey for inability to smile on the podium. To be fair, he did smile once but usually looks pained to be there.

    Great tune with a driving groove I'll be testing for my synchronous pedaling to music playlist. At 150 bpm, it won't sync well with my normal cadences (80-100 rpm, 90 rpm preferred). But my knees will be OK with light pedaling at 75 rpm, a perfect sync with this song. Just the thing for easy...

    Excellent! Needed that laugh after paying today's vet bill. She'll be OK, but my bike budget won't. Cutejitzu is the ancient art of exploiting cuteness for personal gain. Most kids and dogs are 11th degree black belts from birth, and Roxie's no exception. It's why I coughed up for the vet...

    Just at the edges? Happy Birthday! I recall parts of my 63rd year. You'll get through it. ;^}

    Last follow-up on the fun coastal SoCal's been having with Hurricane Marie — mainly to my north in Orange and Ventura Counties. Excellent footage and high-quality narration by folks who clearly know their meteorology, wave dynamics, and coastal engineering. You may be unimpressed by the cited...

    Sounds fair if you mean an asterisk only for the stage win immediately following the crash. But no other stages, right? And if Mas goes on to win the CG, no asterisk there, either.

    No worries in the Vuelta case. None of the firemen were in bikinis.

    At about 112.5 km and again at 110.2 km to go in today's Vuelta Stage 17, I spotted roadside fire trucks drenching the peloton with thick plumes of water mist. In both cases, on totally straight, wide, flat road with no white paint beyond the usual center and shoulder lines. Bet that felt good.

    Fun with AI

    All of that sounds straight out of a sci-fi movie, but it's terrifyingly real. Every guard rail in place was circumvented without human help. Clearly no way to control or even contain AI this advanced. Powerful AI falling into the wrong human hands may be the least of our worries. Not sure...

    Far-field Marie mischief to our north in Long Beach, CA. Spectacular wave reflections off the seawalls at 5:00. Some seawalls failed in this barrage. Others were weakened. Lots of property damage from local wave flooding. South-facing shorelines took the worst beatings — especially this one.

    The trouble with Marie Unusual September skies these last 3 days from former Hurricane Marie, now down from a Cat 1 to a post-tropical cyclone some 700 mi SW of San Diego. Marie 2-3 days ago as a Cat 1 some 600 away. No chance of landfall now, but SoCal's still feeling her many far-field...

    Ha, I'm famous! Dan Lloyd's weekly GCN Racing Show is my favorite source of racing news and analysis, and he just read my comment on Tadej's departure from the Vuelta on air at 8:50 below: We've been discussing Tadej's impact on the excitement for some time here on EBR. And no surprise, the...

    Next time you're riding in the rain, try distracting yourself with thoughts of what a remarkable substance water is. Here we see a battle unfolding between momentum, gravity, and water's unusually strong surface tension and low viscosity. Just one of many stunning video captures from The...
