Aussie commentators making the point only 2 stage winners so far in this Vuelta: Pog x 2, Brennan x 2, mother Nature x 1.

Good win by Brennan, perfect team effort made it look so simple.

but at least... Was miles when growing up but always Celsius for some reason. Joined EEC in '73, same day as UK and gradually kilometers got added to signs. The National Speed change to metric only happened in Jan 2005, full kms ever since. Currency switched from the punt to euro around 2002 I...

Back in the un technical days of the 80s my interval training was a long straight road about 3 miles from my house and on the way back from a training spin I'd always divert down this 6 mile road and use the telephone poles to mark the sprint intervals; sprint 2 or 3 poles, recover for two...

was thinking that too, Onley then said he had a terrible night before the stage, didn't sleep at all. No reason given. Netcompany (and Geraint Thomas) will still be jittery!

Exactly. For a 3 week Grand Tour to have no central, riveting GC competition really does diminish it. Not Pog's fault but after the similar situation in France it's getting very boring now. I'm hoping young riders like that Belgian kid and Onley put in a good showing and the race to the podium...

Can't remember but it's not usual at the pointy end because it's rare there is any oxygen to spare. Pog is rare. Racing is never so one sided where you have the space to be magnanimous. I do think the race for second looks interesting which is a consolation.

This young Belgian lad looks an interesting future prospect, Jarno Widar. Finished 2nd today, aged just 20 but bloody impressive early palmares. One to watch.

He started as a mountainbiker. Has European & National jerseys & 3 World Cup round victories. These days he isn't seeded so does the short lap qualifying race, couple of days ago, finished 10th which bought him a second row start and then had to fight his way to the front in the early laps...

Bet they'll try again- who do you watch Wout or Brennan? Brennan or Wout? Where's the danger coming from?

Well he missed out on the prologue yesterday by an agonising 0.09 seconds to Pog and today was in the breakaway, got away from them, TTed to the inter sprint, gained 6 seconds (and Vuelta race leader's red jersey) but couldn't stay with lead group to finish same time as Pog and by the end...

What did I say earlier?! Its the Visma 1-2 they honed in successive Tour of Britains; a hilly finish and Van Aert and Brennan do the one two with the 21 year old claiming his first Grand Tour stage! Brilliant stuff. In the end Brennan just powered away from them. Impressive.

Like I was saying above it's the behind the scenes I'm finding fascinating as we head to the race. I mean on paper it's Pog all the way but the competitive nature and desperation of the other teams to get stages and podium places - last chance saloon to show financiers/sponsors something in this...

There is a lot of hustling right now between teams I notice. Bora, let's be honest, the king of disfunctional management are on non speaking terms with Roglic who is (rumoured) to be heading out the door to Lotto, odd choice of destination but let's see. The Remco transfer still making waves...

Interesting article about Netcompany INEOS after their worst TdF since 2011 and how high the stakes are going into the Vuelta. After Onley's crash ruled him out of the Tour and tore apart their GC ambitions, be interesting to see how he does in Spain for them. Lot to prove...

Be great to see Kuss let off the leash and see what he can do. And young Brennan in the sprints, probably combining with Van Aert so they won't know who to watch. Visma got into doing that bait and switch on the Tour of Britain for a couple of years.
