Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

You probably wouldn't like the Beast after just a day. I have 2 ebikes and it takes a little time adjusting to each after riding the other. The Beast is heavier, more gears to row through and slower rolling tyres compared to my lighter more nimble Earth T-Rex with fast rolling tyres. The Beast...

Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

Eco 1 certainly does not spin the tyres. On the steepest part of the climbs it’s barely pulling itself up. Legs are on fire on the climbs in Eco 1. The roadies on there gravel bikes are spinning there tyres though. From memory the peak climb was 20 degrees.

Re-greasing the Ultra motor...is it time?

I prefer wear protection over noise reduction. I might go with the Mobil SCH100. If the CH grease is starting to blacken it might be breaking down. Pic of mine after first opening after 3600 km’s. Seems to have been well greased from factory.

Re-greasing the Ultra motor...is it time?

I’m about to grease mine for the first time and not sure which grease to use. Does the corn head grease blacken?

    1. Doesn't higher voltage and lower amps aid system efficiency in that there is also less battery sag? Less battery sag = more volts? More volts = more power and more range? 2. PAS 1 suits me fine. I wouldn't say it's over powered nor weak. IMO its actually a great balance from slow steep...

Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

I went in the Seven gravel race, and did the 90 klm course.

Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

The 60V Beast also has a lower 28A controller compared to the usual 30A Ultra controller. So more volts and less amps likely also helps efficiency …..and less heat. In theory I prefer your display, but the reality is I ride on eco pas 1 everywhere regardless of wind, terrain, or elevation. So...

Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

They are great tyres, but for this race the bike felt over tyred and draggy for a higher speed and less technical gravel race.

Mine just has the factory Frey/Bafang tune with the CANbus motor.

Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

Thanks. Just do it! I did see a couple of more gravel comps coming up later in the year. I'm sure your used to more seat time than I am, so a continuous four hour ride is probably nothing for you :) I may also enter some single track competitions later this year as well, such as the Dwellingup...

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

I've owned 3 of the Mark 2's over my lifetime. One was an RS2000 with the 2 litre pinto motor. I rebuilt the motor and the car from the ground up and tracked it for a while. It literally handled like a big go cart and would embarrass bigger hp V8 cars

Entered My First Gravel Race........with the Frey Beast

A friend of mine mentioned he was participating in his first gravel race with his Amflow Pro. I had a look at the courses which varied in distance - 25klm, 49klm, 90klm and 125klm. I entered in the 90klm race with 2025 vertical metres of climbing as I thought this would give the greatest...

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01, Grin All Axle

These days I drive an AMG C63 which also has 400rwhp but in a heavier package, so a fair bit slower.

This was my S15 engine bay on the day I sold it about 10 years ago……circa 400rwhp. Lost my licence once and then copped a $1,000 fine and 8 demerit points another time so decided it had to go before it was confiscated and crushed…….400rwhp in a circa 1265kg car accelerated well back then.

In the past I used to track my Ford RS2000 and Nissan S15 at my local racetrack. Have to agree with your ranking that was better than sex. 😎 Then I moved onto big boats which was also a lot of fun and an awesome lifestyle. When my daughter started high school we sold it due to us being able to...

    Offset Saddle Adapter

I use a setback adapter myself on my carbon EMTB. The adapter was used to stop the saddle rails flexing, which it did. Otherwise the saddle remains in the same position as before the adapter was installed. Pics for attention.

    Offset Saddle Adapter

I agree. Risk of damaging the seat tube. One of my e-bikes manufacturer specifically won‘t warranty frame damage caused by seat post racks because of the stress on the seat tube. Doing this is akin to installing a seat post rack depending on the amount of setback and your weight.
