My bike , not a Surface 604 but had a similar problem. It turned out to be a plug that came apart a tiny bit that could hardly be seen. They can be tight and hard to get plugged in completely. Plugging and unplugging can help if there is a bit of corrosion too.

The torque can be the same but mid drive torque can be multiplied at the wheel because of one's ability to do it through changing gears. There is only one gear from motor to wheel on a hub drive.

I push my bikes over on the kick stand just enough to raise the rear wheel and prop it up some way. Get creative with a way to hold it there.

The last two bikes I had that same problem. The soloution was to just lengthen the kickstand a bit so it held the bike more upright. In my case they were not adjustable so it took a bit of ingenuity to make them longer. Look at it carefully and see if it can be lengthened and then drill a hole...

Be aware they can be dangerous until you get used to them. I use traps and even they are dangerous especially if you have to come to an emergency stop. while riding slow. I have the elbow scars to prove it.

The question was NOT why anyone would want a throttle. Who cares what YOU would want.
