    What’s your preferred cadence?

Thanks for the science and engineering insights. Perhaps I wasn’t entirely clear about my friends’ bikes. They range from road bikes, endurance bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers, and hybrids. All of them are analog. I’ve noticed some of them struggling, and I’m curious about the etiquette of...

    What’s your preferred cadence?

Yes. Proper use of gearing can insure the ability to pedal at that 8–9- rpm cadence.

Riders and lawmakers must understand the actual regulations and intent....

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) has published one of the best e-bike and mobility policy statements I’ve seen. You can read it here: https://waba.org/2026/06/11/lets-talk-about-ebikes-again/

    What’s your preferred cadence?

You’re making the right point. I ride with someone who prefers to ride at the hardest gears, grinding it out. I think that’s silly, but whatever works for her is fine. Is it appropriate for me to make that point with her or to suggest to my other friend? And, as you imply, should I be suggesting...

    What’s your preferred cadence?

Not the question I’m asking, but a good point. Remember that most people are uninterested or even able to comprehend the possibilities of changing the drivetrain on their bikes or even shopping for bikes with a drivetrain suitable for their riding conditions. I’m not a member of that group.

    What’s your preferred cadence?

The responses to my OP have been illuminating. I have a corollary question. Am I correct in assuming that, like my Specialized Turbo Vado SL2, bikes and their drive trains are designed for best efficiency at certain gear ratios, cadences, and resulting speeds? For example, my SL2 efficient...

    What’s your preferred cadence?

FWIW, though less colorful, the defa display screen on my Vado SL2 is the same.

    Saddle height: The deciding factor?

This why I’ll be fiddling with saddle position in the next few weeks. (I believe the Brit’s call it fading?) Initial position is pretty good, but I know I need to make a few tweaks. Part of cycling being a hobby.

Turbo Vado SL 2 6.0 - turns itself on when off and unattended

I think my SL2 turned itself on once, but I had been fiddling with charge cables and the handlebars so I’m not sure. I haven’t been into the garage much this week due to unsafe temperatures and wild fire smoke but on my two brief visits the bike was off. I’ll have to check it later this morning.

    Saddle height: The deciding factor?

I’m puttering in the same playground with my new bike. I’m using the same suspension seat post that I had on the SL1 but the initial setup has the saddle at a much lower position according to the measurement marks on the seatpost. It’s been dangerously hot and now extremely dangerous Canadian...

    What’s your preferred cadence?

You are touching upon my understanding of how cadence and gearing affect how a bike feels to ride. I believe that most bikes have a “happy” pace. It’s where your cadence not only feels natural but also effortless. Little or no stress on legs and body. For my previous Cannondale, that speed was...

    What’s your preferred cadence?

I regularly ride with a group of my fellow seniors. We range in age from 65 to 80. Most of them ride at about 50 rpm. A few of us preferring to grind it out. I prefer to rode at between 80 and 90 RPM. Several of us are on road bikes. Others are riding various other bike types. I’m the only one...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I have been using a Zero Gravity wall hanger for my bike. The Rack hangs the bike from the top bar. When I bought it I had an analog hybrid bike that weight about 28 pounds. When I got my Vado SL1 4 EQ I still had no serious problem lifting the bike onto the rack. Now that I have the SL2 5 EQ...

Specialized drop prices in North America for Levo range. Permanent drop due to competitive market.

The price for the SL2 model 5 EQ was reduced to $3599. (That price is now the list price for the bike, BTW.) My trade in on my 2021 SL1 model 4 EQ was $1300 So my out of pocket was less than I’d originally paid for the model 4. I suspect that one reason for the reduction in the US is the...

Specialized drop prices in North America for Levo range. Permanent drop due to competitive market.

The price cut and an excellent trade-in offer is how I bought mine. The out of pocket price was less than I’d paid for my SL1 model 4EQ in 2020. Oh, and I love the new bike.

Riders and lawmakers must understand the actual regulations and intent....

Damn! You’d think legislators are ignorant of almost everything (in this case bicycles and e-bikes), afraid of their more extreme or at least activist constituents and otherwise incapable of producing actually useful laws or regulations.

Riders and lawmakers must understand the actual regulations and intent....

I think that Ken and Roamers are both right. Self interest has often resulted if flawed but useful regulations.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I’ve had my Vado SL2 for a couple of weeks now and have ridden about 133 miles on the same routes I’d ridden my SL1. So far, I’m very impressed with the improvements and capabilities of the new model. First of all, the obvious: The new bike is bulkier and heavier, but surprisingly, the geometry...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I picked it up today. I just did a quick ride around my neighborhood to get a feel for it and to just ride it 😀. (Spelling edit) Some first impressions: The SL2 is much smoother and quieter than the SL1. It also feels more powerful and stable. It appears to be faster at a given cadence and...
