This is exactly the problem with most folding bikes. They use the same gear parts as the bigger wheel bikes and you wind up "hamster wheeling" at anything above 15 mph. Childrens' mountain bikes @ Walmart are geared higher. Some manufacturers try and make up for it by using a 52 teeth chainring...

The Cross Current looks hot. My biggest gripe with most ebikes are designers don't think about vandalism, theft, and here in NYC cops. I love how this just looks like a bike and doesn't attract attention. Also love the simple display.

Thanks for posting your experience with Magnum. I am in the market for a bike and was strongly considering the Mi5 but maybe not anymore. As for your battery situation... have you looked into buying it from another vendor? From what I understand, 90% of all ebike parts come from the same place...
