    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Good, the materials I saw didn't make that clear. Exactly what I want. As I said earlier, open to a fully manual MGU. Would be interested to try a CVT+motor unit as well.

Not sure I'd feel the same, but I do recognize some of the technical benefits you mentioned. However, one way or another, an assist mode and crank/wheel speed ratio must be in effect at all times. For now, I want that control. How the bike executes my choices — e.g., with an MGU or CVT+motor...

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Amen to that. The marketing uses "naturally" a lot, but a bike that chooses gear ratio and assist level for me would feel far from natural to me. Besides, it's help I neither want or need. That said, when new bike time comes, I'd definitely be interested in an MGU (like the current Pinion?)...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Last Saturday's ride started with 5 miles of flattish neighborhood laps with a neighbor getting back on his Aventon for the first time after spine surgery. He wanted some company just in case. Then I split off for 8 more miles of hills with 800 ft of climbing. They say that climbing starts to...

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Gee, that appeals to me about as much as a stick in the eye — maybe less. The constant-cadence part would suit my current pedaling style, as my arthritic knees demand 80-100 rpm to produce any significant pedal torque — and the closer to 92 rpm, the better. Beyond that, no thanks. I want to be...

Washington State's new ebike laws just passed.

Tempting to think, hope this yahoo gets hit doing that — and the sooner, the better. But the innocent driver who kills him will be mentally scarred for life, as will any witnesses on the scene, especially if he's young. And it's entirely possible that the driver could end up getting injured or...

Washington State's new ebike laws just passed.

Even the Netherlands — arguably the most bike-centric country in the world — is having problems now with bike riders going too fast for conditions on public bikeways. Recent years have seen a sharp rise in related death and injuries — to the point that a 20 km/h bicycle speed limit is now being...

    Just for fun...

Kind of. We're remodeling, and the contractor doesn't want his workers using our bathrooms. Personally doesn't bother me, and I'd rather have the driveway space. I'm sure she's thought about it. I tell her, get up to pee in the middle of the night as often as I do, and see what happens to your...

Washington State's new ebike laws just passed.

Everyone should wear a helmet. Otherwise, people should wear what they want when they ride. If like me, they want the many functional advantages that cycling shorts and jerseys have to offer, that's their call, too. I don't wear lycra because I think it looks good on me. I know better. Nor does...

Very nice recap of recent European races:

    Phone Mount Suggetions?

Lots of subsequent evidence, though, that phone camera damage IS a problem on bicycles with certain phones — specifically, higher-end phones with mechanical auto-focus and image stabilization mechanisms. More info here.

So strange to hear pro cycling commentators with distinctly American accents — especially the female's Southern (or Texas?) accent. You'll never guess who won.

It's important to be thankful for something every day. Tomorrow, I'm going to be extra thankful that we got past that phase.

    Phone Mount Suggetions?

Before anyone buys a vibration damping phone mount, make sure that it's tuned specially for bicycle handlebars and actually effective at phone camera protection on bicycles. QuadLock has said repeatedly that its damper is tuned for motorcycle vibrations and is therefore NOT for bicycles...

No, I don't understand it either. Not the first time. Dealer told her not to worry about it, just drive it when you can. But if I've learned anything in my 77 years, it's that "don't worry about it" from a business is my cue to worry more.

    Just for fun...

Kinda bummed this morning. My wife's white 2020 Mercedes wagon just sent her an email that the battery's low. What the heck? My black 2004 350Z never calls, never writes. After 18 years, I thought we had something. Sniff. Never mind the porta-potty behind the Z. We're remodeling. Asked the...

Anyone have separate phone for bike accessories?

Same here. So I unpaired my ACE from my Specialized ebike but left it on the bars to do what it does really, really well — GPS and mapping services. Plenty enough useful info there to earn its keep. And that's all I need to see on the bars, cuz the ebike's top tube display does an excellent job...

Anyone have separate phone for bike accessories?

Not a bad idea if you ride with devices that really need to be controlled from the handlebars while riding. Just make sure that the cameras in the 2nd phone don't have mechanical auto-focus or image stabilization components, as these are subject to damage by bicycle handlebar vibrations. Reason...
