    The transition

totally seamless, press the brakes a little and you see the power use go to negative, a little harder it goes more negative, harder still it doesn’t go any further but you stop much faster. on many EVs there’s also a steering wheel paddle that trigger full regen braking. i actually use that a...

    The transition

in practice you rarely need to brake from speed when the battery is full, because you used energy getting up to that speed and staying there. the issue is more that the battery can’t be recharged at the same speed as it can be discharged, so it takes more than one speed up -> slow down cycle for...

    Garmin Varia 515 malfunction

that's a good deal. i don't like the new one (bigger and heavier for not much benefit) so i might pick up a second 515. mine has around 1,000 hours of use, at least 200 charge cycles, so i figure i got my money's worth. it still works very well but the battery life doesn't seem nearly as long...

concerns with ebikes laws and ways to improve them

the first column is the percentile rank of athletes on cyclinganalytics - so if you read across from 90% basically 10% of athletes on that site can sustain 627 watts for a minute. so really we’re probably talking about 1 to 5% of the population, because anyone using a power meter and uploading...

concerns with ebikes laws and ways to improve them

absolute nonsense, and e-bike advocates need to stop using falsehoods to make their case. it takes over 600 watts to go 30mph on level ground on a decent road bicycle. check the CAT charts for RACERS and you’ll see that this is sustainable for about a minute for a 75% category racer. for an...

    The transition

it’s not the majority - it’s the combination of a very vocal and manipulative minority with a good subset of the easily manipulated. he and his gang of _________ are historically unpopular.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

i do enjoy a spin around town on the aethos, and it has a lot of sentimental value. but more to the point, i do hope to be able to do big rides on it again, someday. i’m on the (heart) transplant list as of a few months ago, and in theory, ideally, in a few years i might be back to riding a...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

i test rode a fastlane today. very tempting !!! here's a summary of my quandary on the pros and cons of this bike and my current e-road bike. now i have a major dilemna! i still have my s-works aethos, which fits me like a glove and rides like air, but i can't ride it on any interesting rides...

Specialized drop prices in North America for Levo range. Permanent drop due to competitive market.

800% support ratio, 1500w peak power, I can’t believe they’re allowed on trails anywhere.

    The transition

that’s a lot of words to state a simple truth : re-using is always better than re-cycling, which is almost always better than discarding. and people prefer choice - the old school milk delivery model only really works if most people drink mostly the same thing at a regular rate. count the number...

    Garage Bike Floor Stand

interestingly the listed weight is only 16lb. somehow it feels heavier than that when folded up, maybe just because it’s got an odd balance with the head out? it’s an excellent stand, I have no real complaints!

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

yep, no play dates, no helicopter parenting, no internet, very few screens and the interesting ones required you to figure it and understand how they actually worked. we were basically unattended from sunrise to dusk in the summers and when not so school. learned all kinds of things ;) (but...

    Garage Bike Floor Stand

I use the pcs 10.x - not sure if mine is the .2 or .3 very sturdy, since it’s portable you can take it outside to wash the bike, and it folds up when not in use. It’s definitely a bit awkward when folded, an odd shape and pretty heavy,

    Garage Bike Floor Stand

interesting. Don’t you have to hold the bike then, since it’s just swaying around? for example, to torque down a crank bolt, bottom bracket, etc?

    The transition

what does what some other rich person does have to do with making choices that have less impact? anyone who gives a s*it about the planet, their children etc should choose to do what they think is the best they can do. i’m pretty sure that isn’t buying tons of cheap s*it from china and bags of...

    The transition

it really depends on your priorities! everyone is looking for a slightly different mix of things. personally, i wouldn’t live anywhere that required frequent use of a private car. but luckily most places i’m drawn to don’t fit in that category.
