For Specialized SL owners. Have you bought the bottle battery and is it helpful to you?

I’ve been riding with the RE all the time for a while now. my regular rides are between 10 and 30 miles. I do two or three rides a week and can often c(rage just once a week. The RE has often given me the capability of taking unplanned longer rides without range concerns. I bought my Vado SL...

Surging Specialized turbo vado SL 5.0

I notice that if I’m in Turbo (100/100) and riding slowly the assist does surge slightly when I start and more annoyingly lags or pulls back when I lower my cadence. It’s slight but definitely noticeable and occasionally disconcerting. I agree with Stefan that this is may not be normal or...

    Is Vado Smoking Addictive?

After more than a half century of vadoing investing never reached the point where I’d get lost if I could still move. 😜

Turbo Vado SL 5.0 and Specialized App - Range Extender

I’m sure that the folks at Specialized are working hard to screw up the software further in a future update.

    Bike speed

I don’t think speed limits on undulating trails would work. Bikes go faster down hill and slower climbing. If you are going too slowly at the bottom of a hill you might not have enough momentum to reach the top of the next one. Even on an e-bike. Where would the cops enforce the limit? At the...

Vado SL - real world range

Stefan as usual provides precision to the discussion. This explanation mirrors my experience. Another factor is ambient temperature. over this past mild (Northern Virginia) winter my range on the colder days was down as much as 20%. Speed was also lower, but that might be attributed to the...

    Mission control no longer supported?

It would seem the Specialized folks misunderstood my emails about their e-bikes being computers on two wheels. Rather than providing an App that enabled mastery of the current and future sophisticated features provided by the bikes’ microprocessors they put together something suitable for young...

I think I understand New York's ebike fire problem a little better now.

Sounds more and more like a protection racket.

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

I not aware of any regulatory issues but I’ve ridden the trail both alone and with the E-Bike Lovers of Washington DC group several times in the past few years without incident

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Northern Virginia is really good for biking. I’m in Ashburn and am less than a mile from the W&OD which riding 25 miles or so southeast indirectly connects to the Mt Vernon trail. a very cycling friendly region. And the local govs are working to improve it.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I find I’m regularly making small fit-based changes over the year. Sometimes because my handlebar got whacked carrying the bike. Other times my saddle slipped and it took several (on going) attempts to get right. (This saddle/seat post saga is for another thread.) I’ve also had to make...

    Winter Sucks

Too cold? In Loudoun County? I know parts of it are colder than here in Ashburn, but most of the late autumn through March the temps are in the mid 40s and often warmer. A few weeks of real cold in January or February but not that bad otherwise. And I say this as someone who doesn’t ride in the...

SQlab Innerbarends®: The Strong and Weak Points

Your cockpit looks almost identical to mine. Same mirror, TCD, IBE and Grips with horns. I just have a phone holder - no cycling computer. My left hand grip and so forth still needs adjusting. My left shoulder and hand have been sore and I’ve been fiddling with fit. I don’t ride in bad weather...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I need to mounting my bike on the rear garage wall so it’s off the ground. There isn’t enough room for my car and the bike if it’s on the floor. Room is also why I can’t have more than one bike. No place to put it. To mount my bike on the wall I use a “Zero Gravity“ rack. The company appears to...

It’s official: E-bikes are actually bikes, not ‘motor vehicles,’ according to new EU rules

…made me think of an old Dean Martin line; don’t drink and drive, you might hit a bump and spill it.

    The Sound of Gravel

The sounds of cycling do contribute to the joy. I especially appreciate what the road sounds say about the conditions of the ground. On gravel the sounds say whether the trail is firm or soft. Whether taking a turn at speed will be safe or result in a skid. Whether the straight road can be...

It’s official: E-bikes are actually bikes, not ‘motor vehicles,’ according to new EU rules

Here in Northern Virginia, brewery rides to the several breweries on the Washington and Old Dominion Rail Trail are very popular. Fortunately, the trail is only bikes, pedestrians with or without dogs, horses and a few folks on scooters and such. Drunkenness still not recommended.

Do You Wear a Wristwatch When You Ride?

Sounds like me. i broke watch after watch. I finally switched to Timex. Didn’t break those, and I guess taught myself to not break my watches. I got an Apple Watch when I was diagnosed with AFib as a monitor. It’s really helped there and now that the latest versions automatically sense a bike...
