Interesting phenomenon post update or is it spring?

Since getting the recent firmware updates, my Vado SL 4 EQ has been runnning more smoothly and is quicker, even in Eco. It’s also gotten warmer and it is spring. I’m curious on your thoughts. Is my experience due to the updates or warmer weather improving electrical performance? Or and I in...

Bike shop charging fee to upgrade mission control?

Besides the ability to automatically limit charges to 80%, I’ve noticed smoother performance when in turbo mode, an issue I’d had. The other reported updates are too subtle in effect to be aware of.

Bike shop charging fee to upgrade mission control?

I hadn’t considered the challenges of updates for the technology challenged. While I believe the concern may be overblown, you’re right to point out that neither the bike shop mechanics nor the typical user may be capable of dealing with problems during an update. And a failed update would...

Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH - The Nightmare Continues

I’m glad the resolution to your problem is satisfactory. Specialized ultimately did the right thing. Sadly, you still don’t have a bike. I suspect these issues will continue due to the complexities of the bicycle business. Perhaps, as Specialized‘s DTC model matures things will get better. Most...

Bike shop charging fee to upgrade mission control?

The email announcing the update that I received, (the fist time I’ve ever received any notice) said that there could be a charge for the update. One dealer I went to said they’d charge $20 US. The dealer I went to included the update in an annual service job. I agree it should be free, but… I...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I agree. The best accessory investment I’ve made for mine. No more range anxiety and less time on the charger. Sixty to 70 miles on a charge over several rides this winter. I didn’t pay attention, so can’t say what the difference might be for summer weather.

    Firmware update for charging limit

P Your experience with Specialized is definitely different than here in the USA. I believe your Specialized dealer is owned by them. Here, most dealers are independent and may not be compensated for updates. Especially if the bikes are not otherwise in warranty. (Warranty repairs are...

    Firmware update for charging limit

Interesting. I’m sort of in the middle on this. If I have no scheduled longer or group rides pending, I only charge when I’m below 30% or so when I come back from a ride. If I have a scheduled longer ride I charge the day before. I’ve been charging to 100%, but will probably change to the 80%...

Winter Is Coming - Biking in Cold Weather

Warm winter here too. It’s been around 15-20C here n Northern Virginia for much of February. Good for riding. which is good for my heart health.

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

There is another kind of safety, one of great concern to my senior citizen neighbors: their fear of LI battery fires. Charging to 80% as a feature can be helpful when dealing with frightened seniors. Especially those on a condo owner’s board.

Peter Flax article for Bicycling.com about the challenges presented by DTC ebikes

What a fun thread. It has everything. A good lede. Mostly good arguments. Only a few insults. Recognition of the absurdities implied in the Bicyling.cpm article. And remembering the dumb stuff I did with my bike when I was a kid. I won’t even mention the dumb stuff I’ve done as a senior citizen.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Thanks for the confirmation. Now I just have to get it together to ride to the LBS for the update. (I had to change dealers when Trek bought my original, more accessible by bicycle, one.) My new choice is more than double the cycling distance and that’s a long way this time of year. My riding...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Very interesting. I’m at just under 4000 miles on my SL4. Replaced the chain at about 2800 and one set of brake pads do to dam by pesky autumn leaves last year. I’ll get the update eventually. Probably when I get my annual service visit. According to the docs the update may address some wonky...

Turbo Vado power vs Vado SL power

My average speeds are the same. Fortunately, my usual routes have some spots where I can go very fast if I wish to. I can’t sustain speeds over 20 mph or so. I‘m not sure I’m in that good shape. I just think riding fast comes naturally to me. When I restarted riding four years ago I went pretty...

Turbo Vado power vs Vado SL power

I’ve often ridden my SL4 at over 28 mph. Even in Eco with a tailwind and a slight descent. The calculator at https://www.bikecalc.com/gear_inches shows that the bike can go over 30 mph at 95 rpm. I‘ve pedaled and gone faster. The assist at any level definitely makes a difference. I’ve been...
