bought a gas generator for myLiFePO power station

I actually do get some advantage from the waste heat generated by my Kubota GL11000. It's installed inside the garage with a thru wall exhaust. It's liquid cooled and the heat from the radiator keeps the garage warm during winter power outages. No advantage during warm weather though since I...

    LiFePO4 upgrade

IMO, the better safety rating of a LiFePO battery isn't worth the added weight. If it were me, I'd buy two quality UL certified batteries and carry both to get the extra range. Put one on the down tube and the other on the rear rack or pannier. This will help keep the center of gravity lower and...

Amazon Stops Selling Illegal eMotos in CA

The problem I see is, they are being treated by the public as e-bikes, which they are NOT!

    Usernames...

Mine is a computer generated user ID, based on name and social security number. It was assigned to me when I worked for the old Bell System and used to log on to a mainframe computer. The company all but had it tattooed on every employees a$$. Sort of like name, rank & serial# used by the...

    Overvolt!

The e-bike controllers I'm familiar with will take a certain amount of voltage boost. When the limit is reached, the controller will throw an overvolt error code and shut down before any damage occurs. I can't say for sure if this is the case with yours though. 12V or 33% is quite a boost...

bought a gas generator for myLiFePO power station

Before I decided to go for a bigger whole house diesel, I looked at this small Yanmar: It's just 1500W, but enough for the fridge and a few lights. It would work well to charge your LiFePo batteries. If you heat with oil, you have a ready supply of fuel on hand with no worries about storage...

bought a gas generator for myLiFePO power station

I have an old Honda EX750 generator, which is the predecessor of the newer EU1000i. I used to take it camping and charged my e-bike batteries with it overnight. It was quiet enough so it didn't disturb others in the campground. Just for kicks, I once considered trying to adapt it to charge a...

bought a gas generator for myLiFePO power station

Thanks for the detailed analysis! For many years, I went through the same scenario during our frequent power outages. Gasoline use was always problematic for generator use due to availability, shelf life and safe storage issues. Had LiFePo batteries been available back then, I probably would...

Interesting uses for old bike parts

I've found a few uses for old bike parts:

    Just for fun...

Very true and much more mechanically sound, but I was talking about leaks caused by deterioration of the O-ring. This is one of the complaints made by SharkBite reviewers.

    Just for fun...

ProPress fittings also use O-rings and the press makes them more secure, but I'm not sure if the O-ring is any less prone to leaks than push on fittings. They are much cheaper, but more difficult to work with in tight spaces due to the size of the press tool.

Semi-solid state batteries are coming to the e-bike industry – and for real this time

I see nothing about price. I would be willing to spend a few $$ more for a safer, lighter battery, but the other advantages are of little interest in my case.

    Just for fun...

Same here. I've never had a SharkBite fitting leak, but just to be safe, I don't use them inside a closed wall. More plumbers are using them now, but lately they are switching to the cheaper crimp copper fittings that also use O-rings.

    Seat recommendations for tailbone soreness?

I've actually seen a few riders using them as outer garments. Note the picture in the ad shows them inside out so you can see the padding. Wearing them that way makes you look like a Baboon in heat. 😁

Electronic Drivetrain: Is it worth the hype?

I converted all three of my bikes to electronic shifting using the now unavailable Archer D1X products. I've been using them for 5 years now with absolutely no trouble at all. I would never consider going back to mechanical shifting. The system uses a chain stay mounted linear actuator which...

California tries to limit to 250 watt???

An idiot riding a 250 watt bike can still do a lot of damage.

    Seat recommendations for tailbone soreness?

A four year old thread, but a timeless topic to be sure. I've been using padded under shorts for years with great results. I use these from Baleaf...

    Parent Mode

It does sound like a good idea on paper, but a kid can still ride like an idiot at 10mph.

    The transition

I would dearly love to ditch the car and use a bike, but it isn't going to dictate where I choose to live.
