    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

It’s nice to get your input and analysis, both here and on your YouTube channel! And you’re so right about the heat/efficiency connection: basic physics says less heat = better electrical/mechanical conversion. Thanks for your reviews!

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yes, it’s logical that the hpr40 will prove to be at least as efficient as the HPR50, likely better. Besides evolving motors, there are still gains to be made in battery technology which will increase range per battery size/weight = more miles per same physical size battery.

Here’s another test report I came across showing the efficiency o the HPR50. https://www.testmybike.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/INFORME_TQ_HPR50_EN_HI.pdf

When Specialized rolled out the Creo2 they published this chart comparing their new motor’s efficiency with the TQ hpr50 and others. I saw a lot of room for misleading marketing hype and I asked Spec if I could see their test data and methodology. Like “rider cadence between 80 and 100”, and how...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

It’s nice to see you’re taking the 1.8 (or so) rider multiplication factor into consideration in your examples showing the rider power that hits the motor cap. You may have seen the specialized app reports motor power peaking out around 308 Watts, which is the max electrical input they allow in...

Wanted: Carbon Wheelset for Comp Carbon Creo 1

Check out Ican wheels. High quality with tons of good reviews for inexpensive Chinese carbon. They have a gravel wheel they’ll set up with the hub spacing you need for the creo 1 - just email them with your needs. I have a set of aero plus 40’s for my BMC that I’m very happy with. They were $700...

IMPORTANT UPDATE - i just received an email from a senior tech at TQ apologizing for the incorrect information being passed by their customer service rep. He told me the hpr40 was designed to be ridden with no assistance and will not be damaged by doing so. He covered all the cases: riding...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I’ve never ridden an X-20. I know the TQ site has a long article about their “tonality” study of their motor. They discussed the important difference between overall db sound pressure measurement vs the measurement at different frequencies showing how the same sound pressure will be loud and...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I’m surprised - my BMC roadmachine with TQ is silent and the motor is smooth and subtle, at least at the settings I use (eco 30%, 60w max and occasional use mid setting of 60%, 120w max.) I have always set my pedal response to the lowest setting so you might try that. Mine is about 28 pounds and...

Hi Yako, I just messaged you through the forum’s PM with the email exchanges I had with the TQ rep. I don’t want to make her name public here so I haven’t posted them, just what she had told me. I hope you can get some clarification from canyon and/or TQ, and you’ll know which rep not to talk...

EDIT 07/25 Received email from TQ senior tech with accurate info. See post 130 in this thread for details but all is well with the hpr40 in no-assist mode] Yako, I am the one who contacted TQ with question of riding the hpr40 with no assist and was told it will be damaged. I had several email...

EDIT 07/25 Received email from TQ senior tech with accurate info. See post 130 in this thread for details but all is well with the hpr40 in no-assist mode] Yeah I think she must be wrong too. I wonder if when I said ‘unassisted’ she thought ‘power off’ but my examples should have clued her in...

EDIT 07/25 Received email from TQ senior tech with accurate info. See post 130 in this thread for details but all is well with the hpr40 in no-assist mode] I followed up with TQ asking very specific questions to be sure I was clear, and the same support person replied. I asked how that could...

EDIT 07/25 Received email from TQ senior tech with accurate info. See post 130 in this thread for details but all is well with the hpr40 in no-assist mode] Good point, I didn’t even think of that scenario- a long ride that depletes the battery but you still have miles to go to get home. I’m...

EDIT 07/25 Received email from TQ senior tech with accurate info. See post 130 in this thread for details but all is well with the hpr40 in no-assist mode] Same here. I emailed TQ back asking for specifics on the hpr40 no-assist limitations. I’ll post here if I hear back. In the meantime my...

[EDIT 07/25 Received email from TQ senior tech with accurate info. See post 130 in this thread for details but all is well with the hpr40 in no-assist mode] I just got a response from TQ to an email question I had sent them in April that included some rather disappointing news about the Hpr40...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yeah, I’m questioning the accuracy of the reporting of the BMC weight. The recently released non powered top tier team machine is 6.6 kg (BMC website number) and the hpr40 motor, battery and cables are claimed to weigh 2.7 kg. That makes 9.3kg or 20.46 lb. I’m thinking the Prototype ebike either...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

BMC has a Teammachine prototype using the hpr40 that weighs 8.5 kg (18.7 lb). That’s got to be getting close to the minimum for an e-assist bike! Scroll to the end of the video for the BMC

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I think we will be seeing more discounted hpr50 bikes. From what I’ve read, TQ is going to concentrate on their two newer motors, the hpr60 and the hpr40. The U.S. trek site now shows their domane+slr 9 and 7 as having the hpr60. They’re using the same 360wh battery as the 50 so it’s probably a...
